Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees is the guardian of the School's mission. It is the Board's responsibility to ensure that the mission is relevant and vital to the community it serves and to monitor the success of the School in fulfilling that mission.

The Board, which meets five times per year, comprises 16-32 people nominated by the Board's Governance & Nominating Committee and approved by the full Board at the Annual Meeting in May. Trustees can serve up to three consecutive three-year terms, and can be re-elected to the Board after being off the Board for two consecutive Annual Meetings.

Role of Trustees

  • Support and promote Kingswood Oxford's mission, vision, and strategic goals.
  • Select, support and nurture the Head of School.
  • Set policy and focus on long-range and strategic issues. An individual Trustee should not become involved directly in specific management, personnel, or curricular issues.
  • Stay fully informed about current operations and issues by attending meetings regularly, coming to meetings well-prepared, and participating fully.
  • Make KO a top philanthropic priority and generously support the KO Fund and capital campaign.
  • Participate in all major fundraising activities and assist the Office of Institutional Advancement in raising funds based on skills and contacts.
  • Understand KO’s financial statements, capabilities, and needs.
  • Be familiar with the School’s bylaws and operations.
  • Accept and support Board decisions.
  • Listen carefully, communicate respectfully, and keep all Board deliberations confidential.
  • As volunteers, the Board works for and in support of the administration.

Trustees Emeriti

At the Annual Meeting, Trustees may elect any number of Trustees Emeriti to serve for life or until they resign. Elected Trustees who have completed at least two terms of three years, regularly attended and actively participated in Board and committee meetings, and provided distinguished leadership to Kingswood Oxford School through volunteer and philanthropic activities shall, upon their acceptance subsequent to recommendation by the Governance & Nominating Committee and approval by vote of the Board, become a Trustee Emeritus.
