Innovation & Opportunity in Academics

Given the ongoing uncertainty, KO is prepared to pivot between three different learning models - Plan Yellow, Plan Orange, and Plan Red - tailored to the specific pandemic conditions in the state at any given time. We are committed to delivering an exceptional and challenging learning experience for our students whether they are in person on campus or online at home so that they are prepared for future success in college and beyond.

  • Plan Yellow

In person Instruction with Concurrent Online Learning

We will return to campus to learn and engage together while adhering to state and federal guidelines. Additionally, KO has invested in new technologies so that concurrent online learning can continue for those students who are ill, immuno-compromised, or whose parents choose not to send their child to school. Technology will enable students at home to log in and participate in the class*

If families opt out of in-person school, they must sign up quarterly for concurrent online learning. Students who are using this platform on an as-needed basis (e.g. if they are self-isolating or recovering from any illness) do not need to sign up. More information is available regarding this option in this document.

**It is important to note that some classes may be online as KO is committed to the health and safety of our faculty members who fall into a high-risk category. They will be permitted to teach their course from home. Accommodations will be made for students to take the online class on campus.

  • Plan Orange

    Hybrid Learning Model

Depending upon levels of the outbreak in Connecticut, state restrictions, and the need to further reduce the population on campus, a hybrid-learning model could be implemented. In this scenario, students would rotate both through in-person instruction and distance learning at home to lower the density on campus and mitigate the spread of infection.

    Online Learning Model

If the state of Connecticut mandates that schools must close due to a surge in COVID-19 cases, KO would shift all students to remote learning at home, which would look much like our spring 2020 KO Online School, with enhancements and modifications based on feedback received from families at the end of the year.
