A Key Component of the KO Experience

We will prioritize the health and safety of our students above all else, and the School will follow the guidance of the state, the Connecticut Interscholastic Conference (CIAC) and the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) regarding return to play protocols and safe participation.

The recommendations from these agencies will help us determine whether the school participates in interscholastic competitions or whether students practice sport-specific techniques and skills at KO. Our goal is for all students to remain physically active regardless of whether we are on campus or engage in distance learning. In case we must move completely online, we are developing a plan consistent with our philosophy towards health and fitness.
Kingswood Oxford has been in constant conversations with our peer schools, athletic league officials, and medical professionals focusing on safely participating in athletics. Interscholastic competition against other schools presents additional challenges to ensuring the health and safety of each school community so there is greater uncertainty about the viability of competing against the other schools. Thus, the Founders League schools voted on July 15 to cancel league competition for the fall and other leagues may do so likewise. Regardless of whether or not competition against other schools is possible this fall, we will be prepared to offer a valuable and meaningful program if we are on campus or at home.

Plan Yellow

List of 1 frequently asked questions.

  • Modified Interscholastic Fall Season

If the fall interscholastic schedule must be modified, activities will be permitted to continue with some restrictions. A potential abbreviated interscholastic schedule might be considered with geographically close, like-minded schools for low and/or moderate risk sports. All other programs will continue to practice with proper social distancing and safety measures in place. Other co-curricular options might be made available.

Low Risk Fall Sports: Cross Country
Moderate Risk Fall Sports: Field Hockey, Soccer, Volleyball
    High Risk Fall Sports: Football

Plan Orange

  • Modified Intramural Fall Season

If interscholastic competition is deemed unsafe by health officials, Wyvern Athletics will continue at an intramural level. Teams will continue to practice sport-specific techniques and skills with proper social distancing and safety measures in place, with intra-squad competitions being considered. Other co-curricular options might be made available, including an option to work with winter and spring teams. These sport-specific workouts will help to safeguard the health of our student-athletes, while also providing them with the physical and mental preparation necessary for their respective seasons.

Plan Red

List of 1 frequently asked questions.

  • No Fall Season

If the fall season must be completely restricted and we are under “stay at home” orders, Kingswood Oxford will continue to offer comprehensive health and fitness options for students to engage in online. These fitness programs will focus on keeping student-athletes in peak performance for each season by teaching them valuable lessons around nutrition, leadership, and more.

  • Outside Team Participation

If students practice and compete with club teams in the fall, please adhere to government guidelines. If you come in contact with someone who was infected you must quarantine for the state-mandated period of time before coming on campus.

List of 1 frequently asked questions.

  • Mask Use

Masks should be worn when an athlete is on the sideline and not in competition. They should remain six feet apart from their teammates on the bench/sideline. Additionally, there should be no shared water bottles or food. Coaches should wear masks anytime they are within 12-feet of players during practices and should wear them while coaching on sidelines.

It is not recommended that athletes wear masks while taking part in any strenuous activity. Once the athlete leaves the field, their masks should be put on immediately and they should apply hand sanitizer.
