All members of our community will need to accept new responsibilities within this changed culture over the next year. Acting with self-awareness, ‘caring beyond self,' and being responsible is imperative to ensure the safety of the community.
The advisory system is one of the tools that the school utilizes to support the mental health of its students. Interpersonal connection is a top priority for the health and well-being of our students. Our small group advisory system, where the students meet with their advisors several times a week for guidance and conversation, has never been so important. KO has enhanced our advising program by partnering with The Social Institute, considered the gold standard in social and emotional programming in schools. With our advising system and The Social Institute, we are committed to caring and supporting our students so that they feel a sense of belonging during these challenging times.
Lunch service will be staggered, reducing the number of students in the dining hall at one time, with students socially distanced and limited per table (two-three per table, space permitting). One way traffic flow patterns throughout the dining hall will be maintained with entrancing and exiting protocols.
SAGE staff will appropriately clean, disinfect, and sanitize all common surfaces, tables, and chairs throughout the lunch period. Additional hand sanitizer stations will be placed throughout the dining hall.
Students and faculty will wash their hands before going to lunch.
Self-serve food stations will be eliminated and replaced with daily-made grab-and-go items such as pre-made sandwiches (meat/veggie/vegan options), fruit snack packs, and individually packaged salad. One meat “combo meal” and one vegetarian “combo meal” will be served (containing an entree, a starch, and a vegetable). Special attention will be paid to ensure that at least one of these items will be gluten or dairy-free to accommodate those with food allergies. More information about SAGE Dining under COVID-19 conditions can be found here.
Due to the restriction of large indoor gatherings, the School will reimagine large gatherings and assemblies virtually or will conduct them outdoors, weather permitting, for students to connect and share. Large classes such as orchestra or chorus will likewise be conducted in larger spaces or outdoors.
