COVID-19 Updates

Coronavirus Updates and KO Community Procedures

As a tight-knit community, we know you will all do your part to help us respond to this evolving health threat. Here is some important information to review to help us navigate the current situation as a community. Please take the time to review it thoroughly.

Current KO COVID-19 Rules

The school has a vaccine mandate.  All students, faculty, and staff are required to be fully vaccinated.  According to the CDC, to be “fully vaccinated,” an individual must have received either the one-dose J&J vaccine, the two-dose Pfizer, or the two-dose Moderna vaccine, and two weeks have passed after the second or single dose.

If you wish to receive an exemption from the COVID-19 vaccine for your child, you must submit a request in writing to Kathy Dunn, the covid coordinator. Please note that the School may modify the vaccination and COVID-19 policies at any time at its sole discretion.

Note:  If an individual tests positive for COVID-19, there is a required five-day isolation period at home, during which students are eligible for remote learning.  Upon returning to school, all students who have tested positive for COVID-19 must complete a Return to Activity protocol.

Kingswood Oxford moved to a mask optional policy as of February 28.  Please be advised that the following will be true for any community member who tests positive for COVID:  there will be an isolation period of five days, and once the individual returns to campus on day six, there will be a five-day period (day 6-day 10) when they will be required to wear a mask while indoors.

Visitors who are vaccinated individuals will not be required to mask while on campus.  Visitors to campus who are not vaccinated are asked to mask while indoors.  The School reserves the right to require masking in certain situations, and these policies will be communicated in advance.

Please note that mask mandates and other guidelines are subject to change pending direction and recommendations from the State of Connecticut and the local Department of Health.

To prevent the spread of contagious diseases, KO community members are encouraged to get practice habits of good hygiene, including:

  • Washing hands with soap and water frequently and for a minimum of 20 seconds.

  • Covering coughs or sneezes with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.

  • Not sharing dishes, drinking glasses, cups, eating utensils, towels, etc., with other people

  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

  • If feeling sick yourself, staying home

For more specific guidelines, visit the CDC link.

As a school, our buildings & grounds and cleaning staff have:

  • Continually disinfected frequently touched objects and surfaces

  • Placed hand sanitizer dispensers around campus

  • Wiped down doorknobs, desktops, and other common surfaces

Members of the KO community who have questions or concerns are encouraged to contact the school nurse.
