List of 9 frequently asked questions.

  • How to schedule an interview?

While we are so excited to show you all KO has to offer, our campus is currently closed to visitors during the school day.

We will be hosting applicant interviews via Zoom at this time. Please plan for the interview to last about an hour. The video meeting will begin with a student portion with one of our Admissions Officers and then we welcome to spend time with a parent/guest/advocate to wrap up the meeting.

Once you have set up your Ravenna account, you will be able to schedule your interview online. Alternatively, you may reach out to admissions via email or phone to sign up. Contact us at admissions@kingswoodoxford.org or by phone at 860-727-5000.

We are also excited for you to learn more about student life on campus during one of our "Share and Discuss" with our Shield and Dragon Tour Guide virtual sessions. You can register for these virtual programs through your Ravenna account, as well as other upcoming events on our events page

If our virtual panel discussions are not convenient for you, please contact our admissions office directly to discuss options for a modified, private on-campus visit. Dates and times are limited.

Any campus visits must be scheduled and confirmed with KO’s Admission office directly. All visitors must wear face masks for the tour. Tours will be modified and limited to three family members only. All visitors must each complete a Health Assessment the day of their visit prior to coming to campus and have a temperature check upon arrival on campus.
  • What should we expect on the day of the interview?

We will provide you with a link to our video conference prior to the meeting. The student will meet one-on-one with an Admissions Officer. After the student portion, the officer will meet with the parent/guest/advocate.

  • Does the application need to be filled out before the interview?

No. Most families choose to interview before starting an application to get a first look at the school and to get a feel for the fit for their child. The application materials can be completed in any order, at any time, as long as it is complete and submitted by February 1.
  • What should my child wear for the interview?

Your child should feel comfortable. Boys may wear a button-down, polo or sweater. They do not need to wear a tie and jacket. Girls may wear a button-down, nice shirt, or sweater.
  • Does KO offer interview appointments on the weekend?

No. Our appointment times are Monday-Friday during the hours of 8:00 a.m. — 4:00 p.m. Our first appointment begins at 8:15 a.m. and our last appointment begins at 2:15 p.m. Wednesdays are half days at KO, and therefore we only offer morning appointments.
  • What makes KO different than other independent schools in the area?

KO takes pride in being the premiere independent, day school community for Grades 6-12 in the Greater Hartford area. As a day school, we believe the parent-teacher-coach partnership is critical to our student’s success. We work to empower students to become independent, to self-advocate, and to embrace life-long learning through our robust academics, while also expanding their interests in our co-curricular activities. As a day school students form one cohesive group, no lines of demarcation exist between day students and boarding students. We ALL share a similar experience- going home to our families at night.
  • What kinds of questions will my child be asked during the interview?

We realize that many students have never been interviewed. We like to use this time to get to know your child as an individual. We ask them about their interests and what they are looking for in a future school. There are no trick questions or wrong answers. The interview process allows time for students and parents to learn more about the school in regards to their individual interests and expectations. We always remind our applicants to relax and be themselves!
  • What kind of students is a good fit at KO?

Students at KO are naturally inquisitive, with a thirst for knowledge both inside and outside the classroom. Students with a desire to discover new areas of interest, students who strive to learn more and intentionally engage themselves in this journey, as well as students who work together to think bigger for the greater good of the community all find much success here at KO.
