The Kingswood Oxford varsity ice hockey team got off to a fast start and snapped a losing streak with a convincing 8-2 victory over South Kent on Saturday.
The Wyverns (5-4) had lost four straight but they jumped on the Cardinals with four first-period goals and cruised to the victory.
Keifer Jaffe ‘21 opened the scoring for Kingswood Oxford early in the first period, beating the South Kent Goalie stick side on a pass from Garth Swanson ‘19.
The Wyverns would score again moments later when Swanson ‘19 found Karstian Lang ‘20 in front to double the lead to 2-0.
Kingswood Oxford added goals by Michael Autorino ‘19 and Kyle Frankel ’21 in the first period, both assisted by Lang ‘20, to give KO a 4-0 lead at the end of the first period.
South Kent would get on the board quickly in the second period, however Kingswood Oxford answered with four straight goals. Autorino ‘21, Sean Gilland ’22, Lang ‘20 and Swanson ’19 each scored in the middle session to push the lead to 8-1.
Abby McLaughlin ‘22 played her first hockey game for KO and did a terrific job on the wing. John McLaughlin ‘20 and Gabby Abramson ‘22 combined for the win in goal for the Wyverns.
Kingswood Oxford takes on St. Luke’s on Friday at 3:30pm at the SoNo Ice House in Norwalk. St. Luke’s won the first meeting between the teams, 4-1, on Jan. 12 at the Cromwell Skating Center.
The Wyverns are then back in action on Wednesday at Hamden Hall before returning home on Feb. 9 for a Senior Day matchup with Rye Country Day.
