As in the past, the game was decided in the closing minutes as the Wyverns came from behind in the pouring rain to win 9-8 in OT. The game got off to a slow start as both team defenses caused the others offense to really work for shots and the terrible conditions did not help matters. Pomfret went into the break with a 5-3 lead. In the second half, Pomfret grew their lead to 7-4 and then 8-5 with 10 minutes remaining. At this point the Wyverns buckled down their defense, won the next few draws and scored the next three goals tying the game at 8 all. Pomfret won the next draw, but the Wyvern defense gave them little opportunity to shoot and forced a turnover with 10 seconds remaining and the half ended as we moved the ball up the field. In overtime, Julia Lantieri won the draw from Abby Eberle and brought the ball down into the Pomfret defensive end. Once the girls got settled into their offense, Julia Lantieri scored the sudden death game winner off a pass from Abby Eberle. In the game, Julia Lantieri '18 scored 5 goals and had 1 assist, Nicole Genga '19 scored 3 goals and 1 assist, and Abby Eberle '18 scored one goal and had 3 assists. Mia Seymour '19 tallied an assist. The key to the game was the stingy defense headed by a rotation of defenders Eliza Charette '18, Noa Boyd '18, Olivia Rossi '18, Maggie Eberle '20, Molly Jones '20, and Jane Dunbar '19. Amelia Levine did an amazing job in her varsity debut making 7 saves. Considering the preseason weather and sparse practice availibilty it was an overall great team effort win.
