KO Students Head to Musical All States

Two sets of KO siblings recently attended the Connecticut Music Educators All States (CMEA) last week after auditioning for the event in February. The talented students included Charlie Coxon ’19 - Mixed Choir, Olivia Coxon ’19 - Treble Choir, David Marottolo ’18 - Band, and Matthew Marottolo ’20  - Mixed Choir. The event is an incredible opportunity for the students be conducted by top-tier talent.

The band was conducted by Dr. Scott Tobias the director of bands at West Virginia School of Music. The group performed several songs including two works by Prokofiev and Sousa. Dr. Jamie Spillane, the associate professor of music, director of choral studies at UCONN conducted the mixed choir featuring two beautiful pieces, Mozart's Regina Coeli and Koppin's I Carry Your Heart. The treble choir sang six songs and was led by Thomas Tutwiler the choral director, music department chair of C.D. Hylton High School.

The CMEA website states, "For today's students to succeed tomorrow they need a comprehensive education that includes music taught by exemplary music teachers." KO is fortunate to have a deep bench in our creative arts department to inspire our students.
