For more than 100 years, Kingswood Oxford School has been providing a rigorous, college prep education to highly motivated students from more than 50 towns in the Greater Hartford and Western Massachusetts region.
Beginning in September 2014, KO welcomed a small number of mission-appropriate international students to the community. International student applicants must be highly proficient in reading and writing English, since all classes are taught in English. KO does not offer English Language Learner (ELL) support.
In addition, international students must secure their own housing with their placement agency or through their legal guardian in the United States. KO's approved agency partners are Nacel Open Door or AIEP.
The Upper School tuition for the 2016-17 school year is $38,500. There is also a $1,500 international student administrative fee and a $500 activity fee. Students are responsible for buying their own books. KO does not accept applications for international Middle School students.
International students seeking to matriculate at KO should complete the following steps by February 1 of the year in which they seek to enter KO (for priority consideration, with a March 10 notification date); applications will be considered on a rolling basis after that:
- Submit an application and teacher recommendations through Nacel Open Door or AIEP.
- Take the TOEFL exam, a requirement for all non-native English speakers, and submit the score to KO. The minimum TOEFL is 94 for applicants to grades 9 and 10 and 100 for applicants to grade 11. KO's TOEFL school code is 4796.
- Schedule a Skype interview by contacting Joan Edwards, Director of Diversity, Inclusion and Cultural Competency, who coordinates the admissions experience for international applicants. Please provide a Skype ID and email address.
- Submit an SSAT score; the SSAT code for Kingswood Oxford is 4414.
