We offer the following unique scholarship opportunities that enhance our students' academic experience at KO. Additional merit opportunities exist for a student with current or retired members of the U.S. military as well as those with a deep commitment to and excellence in music and academics.

  • Martin Nicholson Merit Scholarship

    For students entering Form 3 (9th grade)

    Named in honor of Oxford School founder Mary Martin and Kingswood School founder George Nicholson, the Martin Nicholson Merit Scholarship supports intellectual and motivated students who embody the core principles of Kingswood Oxford. Approximately 15 students per year are selected by the Advisory Committee. Award amounts are $4,500 per year and are renewable each year provided the recipient remains in good academic and disciplinary standing. Scholars receive an additional $1,000 stipend (following their Form 3-Form 5 years) for summer educational enrichment activities.

    Award Selection: The Advisory Committee selects scholars based on the following criteria. Please note, financial need is not a prerequisite:
    • Academic achievement: Students must have an A- or GPA of 3.666 in the fall semester of their 8th-grade year
    • Involvement: Students must demonstrate significant involvement and leadership in extracurricular activities and/or service in their school or local community
    • Citizenship: The student must demonstrate exemplary citizenship in his/her school community
    • 9th graders must score 2127 or higher on the Secondary School Admission Test
    • Current 8th graders will receive communication from the Admissions Office on how to apply for the scholarship.

    Summer Enrichment Stipend — See & Study the World
    Recipients of KO’s Martin-Nicholson Merit Scholarship are awarded additional stipends (up to $1,000) for enrichment opportunities during the summers following their freshman, sophomore, and junior years.
    Opportunities include:
    • KO’s June Term: Students merge classroom learning in real-world settings in this immersive 2-week travel and study experience led by KO faculty. A few recent travel/study examples:
    • Barcelona, Spain — Creative writing and poetry
    • China — Political and economic perspectives
    • Costa Rica — To conduct scientific fieldwork with a University of Pennsylvania professor and researcher
    • New York City and Hartford — Modern urban issues related to education, public service, and social justice
    • Rome and Florence, Italy — Art, architecture, and history
    • Japan — Japanese history and culture
    Internships: Students learn from summer internships at local business, gaining critical real-world skills and experiences.
  • Tallwood Warriors Scholarship

    For students entering Upper Prep (6th grade). The next scholarship will be eligible for Fall 2021 applicants.
     
    The Tallwood Warriors Scholarship supports children of current or retired members of the U.S. military. Preference is given to families demonstrating financial need and to children of service personnel killed or injured during active duty.The award amount varies and is renewable throughout the recipient’s KO tenure.
     
    Award selection: Recipients are selected from KO’s applicant pool. In addition to being the dependent of a military service member, the student must have a strong academic record, demonstrated leadership, and participation in school and community activities.
  • Upper Prep Merit Scholarship

    The Upper Prep Merit Scholarship Program identifies, encourages, and supports students who excelled in elementary school, who demonstrate a passion for learning, who are intellectually curious, and who embody the core values of Kingswood Oxford School.

    Award amounts are $3,500 and are renewed through Form 2 (8th Grade), provided the recipient makes positive contributions to the KO community, and remains in good disciplinary standing.

    Award Selection: An Advisory Committee evaluates all Upper Prep applicants against the following criteria. Please note, financial need is not a prerequisite.
    • Academic Achievement per report card and current teacher recommendations:
    • Involvement in extracurricular and/or service in the school or local community
    • Admissions test results: Qualified merit scholarship applicants need a score of 125 or higher on the OSLAT 8th edition test.
    • Citizenship: The student must demonstrate exemplary citizenship in his/her school community.
  • Giamalis Family Music Merit Scholarship 

    For incoming or rising Upper School music students. The next opening for this scholarship will be available for fall 2021 applicants.
     
    The Giamalis Family Music Merit Scholarship, established by Christine and Stephen Giamalis, is awarded to an incoming or rising Upper School music student per year who will be participating in the Kingswood Oxford band, orchestra, or choir. The award is given to students who exemplify excellence in musical performance and in academics.The scholarship awards one student $1,000 per year and is renewable throughout the recipient’s KO tenure.
     
    Award Selection:
    • Applicants must submit a video audition
    • Finalists will be selected to audition live for the Connecticut Music Educators Association  
    • Applicants must have a GPA of 3.33 and must be enrolled in band, orchestra, or choir
