Program Description: Creativity Unleashed: Immerse yourself in the world of three-dimensional art where creativity knows no bounds. Campers will have the freedom to let their imaginations run wild as they hand-build sculptures and functional objects using a variety of materials, including recyclables and household items. Problem-Solving Adventures: Elevate your artistic skills by tackling design challenges and solving problems through the creation of three-dimensional art. Encourage innovative thinking and resourcefulness in a supportive and inspiring environment. Eco-Friendly Artistry: Embrace sustainability as a core principle. Many materials used in this camp will be recyclable, fostering creativity while instilling a sense of responsibility towards the environment. Natural materials will also be incorporated, connecting young artists with the beauty of the world around them. Led by the extraordinary music educator and KO alum, David Zucker, this week-long musical journey goes beyond the ordinary. Campers will dive into the world of drumming, learning rhythmic patterns in a collaborative group setting. Each camper can take home the drum and t-shirt they design. Camp Highlights: Group Drumming Mastery: Engage in dynamic drumming sessions, mastering rhythmic patterns and creating an ensemble groove. Foster teamwork and musical collaboration as campers learn to synchronize their beats. Neon Creativity Unleashed: Transform ordinary drums, T-shirts, and faces into glowing masterpieces with blacklight tape and paint. His diverse background includes studying music performance and composition at Skidmore College and immersing himself in Indian music in Madras, India. From funk fusion to collaborations with Grammy award-winning composers, David has toured the U.S. and Europe, gracing stages with acclaimed artists. Currently collaborating with Paul Avgerinos on television and film compositions, David’s musical influence extends across various platforms, from reality TV to the NFL. Join us for a week of rhythmic brilliance and creative expression at Blacklight Drumline Camp, where David Zucker’s guidance and Camp KO’s dynamic musical program await. Campers start the week by learning how websites are built. Theyâll experiment with HTML tags, add images, create links, and style their very own webpage. This visual introduction builds a strong foundation for our full Web Design week (July 20-24) and our Interactive Web Apps and Games week (August 3-7).
Next, campers jump into mobile app creation using MIT App Inventorâs easy drag-and-drop coding blocks. Theyâll bring ideas to life by building simple, interactive apps they can test on an Android device. This experience is the perfect preview of whatâs to come in our more advanced App Inventor program (July 13-17).
To round out the week, campers get a first look at Python, one of todayâs most popular programming languages. Using Turtle graphics, kids will draw shapes, create patterns, and learn the fundamentals of text-based codingâskills they can grow in our dedicated Python camp (July 27-31).
Our esteemed Technology Instructor, Michael E. Ligon, is a KO faculty member well-versed in HTML, Javascript, Visual Basic.Net, and AP Computer Science using Java programming with Eclipse. Beyond the classroom, he imparts his knowledge at Capital Community College, sharing his passion for programming.
CREATIVE WRITING: June 22-26
Unleash Your Creativity: A Week of Poetry, Stories, Autobiography, and Fun! Â Age: For students entering Grades 6-8 Minimum enrollment 8; maximum enrollment 12. Â Program Descriptions:Â Does your camper love the rhythm and music in the written and spoken word? Is there something inexpressible inside them? Do they dream of spending time with a group of creative peers who can help them express their ideas? This creative writing class is perfect for daydreamers, poets, writers, and storytellers looking to develop their imagination and creativity. We will learn some of the basic techniques of creative writing, including how to employ imagery, use our senses, write dialogue, and create imaginative, original metaphors. During an optional time for sharing, campers will follow four simple guidelines to ensure that everyone feels safe. Fun-filled writing games and exercises will further deepen our imaginations. The week will culminate with a chapbook of student work and a family-style open mic. Meet Your Instructor: David Pontrelli David is a graduate of Wesleyan University, a certified Connecticut English teacher, and a certified Amherst Writers and Artists workshop leader. His participants represent a wide range of ages and abilities, from inner-city children to adult professional writers. The workshops he leads stress participant safety and create an enhanced sense of community. He has been a featured reader at Art Works Gallery, the Hope Out Loud Peace and Arts Festival, and Word Forge. He is the author of two chapbooks of poetry and a full-length collection, Poems for Streets and People, published in 2023.

Whether you’re a dance enthusiast or a budding ballerina, this camp offers exciting opportunities to build confidence, work as a team, and embrace the joy of movement. Led by our main instructor, Kyle Reynolds, along with guest artist choreographers, participants will experience a dynamic week of self-expression, teamwork, and perseverance, learning to push through challenges and celebrate each other’s successes.  Camp Highlights: Dance Fusion: From classic Ballet to contemporary Modern, jazzy Jazz, and high-energy Hip Hop, participants will dive into a diverse range of dance styles. In addition to teaching theater, dance, musical theater and advanced public speaking curriculum, Kyle leads the Theater and Dance department (Fall Play, Choreographer Showcase, Winter Musical, Spring Cabaret) and serves as the Performing Arts Chair for the department. Under Kyleâs instruction, his students have achieved successful careers in both Broadway and off-Broadway productions as well as national tours. At the college level, Kyleâs students have also gained acceptance to elite musical theater universities: The University of Michigan, Boston Conservatory at Berklee, New York University Tisch, Baldwin Wallace, Shenandoah University, AMDA, and Ithaca College to name a few. Kyleâs priority is to build theater, dance, musical theater and overall artistic opportunities for students at Kingswood Oxford.Â

Participants will have access to professional equipment, including digital cameras, an indoor photography studio, and a computer lab for photo editing and review. Campers will learn camera fundamentals, composition, lighting, and visual storytelling, while also developing their own photographic perspective. The program encourages curiosity and explorationâwhether documenting daily life at camp, creating expressive fine art images, or capturing the natural world. Campers of all experience levels are welcome, and instruction is tailored to support both beginners and more advanced photographers in a collaborative, creative environment. The session will culminate in a final showcase, where students will select and print their favorite images to present in the campus gallery, celebrating their work and growth as photographers. Gwyneth McDonald is a photographer, visual artist, and educator based in West Hartford. She studied photojournalism and documentary studies at Central Connecticut State University, where her work focused on storytelling through images, politics, and everyday life. Gwyneth has experience working in documentary, photojournalism, landscape, and fine art photography, and her creative practice is rooted in curiosity, observation, and thoughtful visual narratives. In addition to her photography background, Gwyneth has worked extensively with children in both classroom and camp settings and brings a patient, encouraging, and hands-on teaching style to her programs. She is passionate about helping young photographers build confidence, learn technical skills, and discover their own creative voices through photography. Â

This one week, half day summer camp, will teach participants the basics of knitting, including how to cast on, knit, purl, and bind off, while working on simple projects that they can complete during the camp. Along the way, they will explore the various types of yarns and fibers used in knitting, gaining an appreciation for the craftâs rich history and creative possibilities.  In addition to honing their knitting skills, campers will have the chance to make new friends, share their progress, and collaborate in a welcoming, supportive environment. By the end of the camp, each participant will leave with a handknit item they can be proud of, along with the confidence to continue exploring the art of knitting on their own.  Instructor: Kathryn Olesnevich Kathryn is a veteran public school teacher with over 20 years of experience, dedicated to instill a love for reading and writing in her students. Her journey into the world of knitting began in her teens, leading her to create West End Woolies, a knitting instruction business that embodies her belief that everyone can learn. Based in Hartfordâs West End, Kathryn shares her life with her wife, 3 young adult children and black lab Addison Harper. Campers may bring their own music books if they are currently studying with a teacher, or we can provide an appropriate-level piano book to guide their learning throughout the week. Through fun, hands-on lessons, campers will build skills in: Music reading Technique and hand position Rhythm and ear training Composition and improvisation Creative expression and musical confidence Each camper will have their own keyboard and headphones, allowing for personalized instruction and steady progress at an individual pace. Program Description: This Biomedical Science Week is designed for aspiring health professionals, offering an immersive and hands-on exploration of the human body and its systems. Each day, campers will tackle a new case study, engaging in guided research, analysis, and lab activities to diagnose their âpatientâ while learning about a specific organ system. The program emphasizes curiosity, problem-solving, and collaboration as essential traits for success in the medical field. Campers will explore the cavities of the body, anatomical positioning terms, and the homeostatic mechanisms that regulate bodily functions. Activities include performing a pickle autopsy, examining human tissue under a microscope, and learning practical skills like suturing open wounds, taking a pulse, measuring blood pressure, and listening to heart sounds. Theyâll further their understanding by dissecting a chicken wing, sheep heart, cow eye, and fetal pig. The camp also introduces biological basics, with discussions on life-sustaining processes, cell and tissue structures, and organ function. Through these activities, campers will cultivate perseverance and attention to detail as they investigate the sources of human diseases and the critical roles each organ system plays in maintaining life. Dive into the unique artistry of musical theater as you delve into singing, acting, and dancing each day.  No extensive experience? No worries! All aspiring performers are welcome. Program Description: Embark on a creative journey with the art of paper quilling at our childrenâs camp week, where campers explore a unique and beautiful form of paper sculpture while connecting with fellow young artists. Paper quilling involves rolling, curling, and shaping thin strips of paper to form eye-catching designs, giving campers a chance to transform simple materials into colorful, dimensional works of art. Throughout the week, campers will experiment with different quilling techniques to create vibrant Pop Artâinspired pieces featuring elements from their favorite characters, icons, and pop culture imagery. As they design and build their artwork, theyâll naturally develop focus and steady hand skills, all while enjoying the satisfying, hands-on process of watching their creations take shape. For campers in 4th through 8th grades, this program is the perfect opportunity to turn dreams of designing, building, and programming robots into reality. Our exploration of the world of robotics covers mechanical design, computer programming, and real-world applications, using the LEGO Mindstorms platform embraced by FIRST Robotics’ FIRST LEGO League (FLL) program. The heart of our Summer Robotics Program lies in a captivating project where campers engage in creating and modifying robots for specific tasks and challenges within a competitive game setting. Through this, they’ll delve into 3D design software, including TinkerCAD, and leverage consumer-grade 3D printers to bring their imaginative designs to life. Campers are sorted into houses upon arrival and embark on a week of magical activities, from crafting wands and brewing potions to practicing Quidditch on the field. With classes like Care of Magical Creatures and Defense Against the Dark Arts, every day offers thrilling lessons and challenges that test creativity and teamwork. Afternoon activities include wizard duels, Weasleysâ Wheezes culinary designs, trivia tournaments, and a House Cup competition that will conclude with our very own Triwizard Tournament to settle the score on top house for the week. Using a variety of indoor and outdoor settings on campus, this camp is perfect for young witches and wizards eager to immerse themselves in the wonder of the wizarding world!  Meet your Instructor: David Baker David Baker ’04 is a native of West Hartford and an alumnus and teacher at Kingswood Oxford School where he teaches a number of history and performing arts courses. Additionally, David chairs the history department, coaches track and field, and helps organize the Wyvern Invitational A Cappella Festival, southern New Englandâs largest high school a cappella competition. David attended Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York, where he was a Filene Music Scholar in voice and also majored in history, with a concentration in early modern studies. After reading the first Harry Potter book (Sorcerer’s Stone) at the age of 11, David became a devoted HP fan, following Harryâs story throughout his own high school and college years – David even wrote his senior thesis at KO on the morals and lessons of Harry Potter! Currently, he lives in West Hartford with his wife Kata, Dean of Students at KO, his kids, Callan and Andrew, and his dog, Dobby. David trains for and races in ultramarathons and triathlons in his spare time.Â

Program Description: This camp is a meaningful storytelling project that introduces students to the process of gathering oral histories in their communities. Learn basic principles of ethical storytelling, how to plan, create and conduct an interview, record using their phones, edit transcriptions into first person narratives from a member in the community. A focus on communication skills, deep listening, empathy, editing techniques that honor voice-centered narratives, while experiencing the transformative power of storytelling. Campers will work in teams to interview a local community member, write and edit a short narrative, add a photograph, and contribute their work to a printed community newspaper that showcases local oral histories. Please have your camper bring a phone to camp each day, if available. Campers will use the phoneâs voice memo feature to record interviews and upload them to Google Drive. If a camper does not have a phone, they will work with a partner who does. The camp will provide each camper with a Kingswood Oxford email address and a laptop for all project work. Meet your Instructor: Melanie Faranello Melanie Faranello is an award-winning author and teaching artist. Her debut story collection, Everybody Needs Something, published by Columbus State University Press, received the 2025 Donald L. Jordan Prize for Literary Excellence. Her writing has been published widely and twice nominated for a Pushcart Prize. She holds her MFA in Creative Writing from The New School. She is the founder of Poetry on the Streets, a community engagement project bringing peopleâs words into public space for social impact. Her community work has received honors and recognition, and she has participated in trainings and cohorts with various non-profits in the arts, such as National Arts Strategies, Narrative4, CT Center for Nonviolence, Voices of Witness, and others. In addition to teaching theater, dance, musical theater and advanced public speaking curriculum, Kyle leads the Theater and Dance department (Fall Play, Choreographer Showcase, Winter Musical, Spring Cabaret) and serves as the Performing Arts Chair for the department. Under Kyleâs instruction, his students have achieved successful careers in both Broadway and off-Broadway productions as well as national tours. Campers will step into the role of real designers as they learn how images, color, typography, and layout work together to communicate ideas and create memorable images. The week culminates in an exciting concert, where students step onto the big stage to showcase their hard work and talent. To view our Camp Day Schedule, enter here.  Program Description: How do artists such as Sabrina Carpenter, Billie Eilish, Beyonce, Bruno Mars and Kendrick Lamar make music videos to promote and enhance their music? This first session of Camp KO A Cappella will focus on the art of recording and producing a music video. First, singers will learn 1-2 a cappella arrangements of a current song(s), with opportunities for solo-singing as well as beatboxing. Our instructors will ensure that younger campers learn the basics of reading sheet music while helping those with more experience refine their sight-reading skills. Then, singers will get to work closely with our sound engineer instructor to produce a professional recording all the while learning about the technology and process of developing a single. Following the audio recording process, our singers will develop their own music video by establishing a storyline, learning choreography, recording âB-Rollâ clips, and filming various scenes to enhance the recording. Moreover, campers will study videos and recordings from our daily sessions and from high school, college, and professional groups across the country to better understand the qualities of a great recording and video. As a final note, there will be opportunities for campers to explore beatboxing, directing, choreography, and solo-singing with our afternoon workshops to ensure the best recording experience and final music video result. The video will become the poster board for Camp KO in the coming year!  The Camp KO Downbeats are entering its 13th season and we are excited to have you join us for this unique opportunity! Campers who sing with us for the first week of a cappella camp are also encouraged to be a part of the second week where we will focus on the art of developing a stage performance, including live concerts at West Hartfordâs Blue Back Square and at Kingswood Oxford. Director: David Baker ’04 David is a native of West Hartford and an alumnus and teacher at Kingswood Oxford School where he directs KO’s select mixed choir, Outlook, and the all-male a cappella group, Crimson 7. Additionally, David chairs the history department, coaches track and field, and helps organize the Wyvern Invitational A Cappella Festival, southern New Englandâs largest high school a cappella competition. David attended Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York, where he was a Filene Music Scholar in voice and sang in the all-male a cappella group, The Skidmore Bandersnatchers. From 2005 to 2007, David performed with and directed the professional a cappella group The Vineyard Sound on Marthaâs Vineyard. Over the past fifteen years, David has sung with the West Hartford Symphony Orchestra (WHSO) numerous times and has performed at the Bushnell as a featured soloist. Currently, he lives in West Hartford with his wife Kata, Dean of Students at KO, his kids, Callan and Andrew, and his dog, Dobby. Baker trains for and races in ultramarathons and triathlons in his spare time. Director: Andrew Siribansop (aka Andrew Kim) A professional a cappella singer, musical arranger, and audio and video producer based in New York City. He earned his Bachelor of Music in Music Composition from Northwestern University and his Master of Music in Film Scoring from New York University. In 2013, Andrew founded, music directed, produced, and arranged for the professional pop a cappella group Backtrack Vocals, which boasts over 13 million views and 113,000 subscribers on YouTube. With Backtrack, Andrew performed at Carnegie Hall, the Beacon Theatre, the United Nations, during the Broadway show Kinky Boots, and on the Steve Harvey Show. Andrew is also the founder and director of Iris Vocal Trio, winners of the 2018 International A Cappella Open. The trio has performed at notable venues including the Berklee Performance Center, Green Room 42, and Carnegie Hall. In addition to his performance and directing roles, Andrew is a sought-after vocal arranger and producer, offering custom and stock arrangements for a cappella groups and vocal ensembles of all levels. Andrew has been a part of the Camp KO team for ten years, sharing his expertise in music and production with aspiring musicians and he is an alum of the Kingswood Oxford Middle School. Designed for beginners, the course introduces essential Mandarin topics such as greetings, introducing oneâs name, numbers and ages, days and dates, family members, colors, food, and everyday expressionsâpresented through fun, movement-rich activities tailored to young learners. Throughout the week, campers will explore Chinese culture through immersive art experiences. They will learn to use traditional brushes to practice Chinese calligraphy, paint colorful Peking Opera masks, create blue-and-white porcelainâinspired collages, and design aluminum foil craft projects inspired by Chinese art. These hands-on activities help campers build cultural appreciation while supporting language learning in a meaningful and memorable way. Printmaking is a process-oriented medium that makes your brain do somersaults. We will use a variety of techniques, such as nature printing, linocut, and monotype to create a portfolio of unique images. Every day we will use a new technique and some days we will mix them. At the end of the week, we will showcase each camperâs creations with an art show. The fun part about printmaking is that there are always happy accidents. All levels of artistic ability are welcome. Meet your Instructor: Liza Martin Liza is a practicing printmaker and painter, who received her MFA in Printmaking from Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia. She has taught art at Tunxis Community College for over 20 years and currently teaches at Annie Fisher Montessori School. What about taking colorful pictures? If so, this full-day food writing program may be perfect for you! During this week weâll read food reviews by kids and adults and develop our skills in mini-challenges, using candy, fruit, and more as testing grounds for sharp descriptions and interesting photos. Then weâll walk into town and put those skills to good use in cafes and restaurants, taking notes and photos that we will later craft into engaging reviews. Designed for kids who write at a range of skill levels, the program will build confidence and teach responsibility as kids complete projects and present their favorite reviews to others on Friday. Â Meet Your Inspiring Instructor: David Zucker, KO â88 David Zucker, an accomplished music educator and Kingswood Oxford alum, brings a rich and diverse musical background to Camp KOâs Songwriting program. He studied music performance and composition at Skidmore College and deepened his musical perspective through immersive study in Indian music in Madras, India. Â David has toured throughout the U.S. and Europe, collaborated with Grammy Awardâwinning composers, and currently works with Paul Avgerinos on television and film compositions. His work has appeared across platforms including reality television and the NFL. Â At Camp KO, David helps students develop lyrics, melodies, and original musical ideas, guiding them through the creative process of songwriting in a supportive and inspiring environment.

Â Program Description: Ignite Your Childâs Passion for Design and Innovation at Camp KO’s 3D Printing and Design Camp! Is your child curious about design, creation, and 3D printing? Whether theyâre already passionate about 3D modeling or just starting to explore the world of engineering, this immersive two-week camp is the perfect opportunity for them to dive in and develop new skills. At Camp KO, we provide an exceptional environment for learning, featuring Flashforge Creator Pro printers and Autodesk software. Under the guidance of Jeff Carpenter, an experienced instructor returning for his 12th season, campers will engage in hands-on design and printing challenges that encourage problem-solving and creative thinking. The camp is designed for both beginners and more experienced participants, ensuring each child can progress at their own pace, tackling obstacles and refining their skills. Through interactive, collaborative projects, your child will have the chance to work with peers, problem-solve, and persist through challengesâvaluable skills they can apply in any future endeavor. They’ll learn how to overcome obstacles, stay determined, and collaborate effectively with others, all while creating something tangible. With over a decade of experience, Jeff returns for his eleventh season at Camp KO, bringing a wealth of expertise in guiding students through technology-based programs. As the head coach of a VEX IQ robotics team that has qualified for world competitions, he specializes in 3D modeling, CAD design, machining, electronics, and programming. Jeff’s teaching philosophy encourages students to think outside the box, fostering an openness to creative problem-solving approaches. Want to develop a stage performance that wows audiences like Taylor Swiftâs Eras Tour or BeyoncĂ©âs Renaissance World Tour? Maybe they dream of joining an a cappella group in college, performing for school assemblies, or becoming a member of an official a cappella group? This camp offers an exciting opportunity to dive into the world of a cappella music! Campers will discover what makes a cappella so unique and why it has such a huge following. They will learn fundamental performance skills, sight-reading, ear-training, harmony, vocal techniques, and even choreography and vocal percussion. Through collaboration with other campers, they will experience firsthand how teamwork creates high-quality performances. Plus, theyâll become part of the Camp KO Downbeats family as they enter their 13th season! In the second week of a Cappella, campers will have the chance to sing and perform songs from different eras and genres. Theyâll receive valuable feedback as soloists and practice their craft through auditions and live performances. The camp will make use of KOâs rehearsal facilities and state-of-the-art technology, including the opportunity to review videos and recordings from their own sessions, as well as from high school, college, and professional groups across the country. The session will culminate in final performances at Camp KO, at Blue Back Square in West Hartford, and on KOâs beautiful campus. Click Here to Read More Director: David Baker ’04 David is a native of West Hartford and an alumnus and teacher at Kingswood Oxford School where he directs KO’s select mixed choir, Outlook, and the all-male a cappella group, Crimson 7. Additionally, David chairs the history department, coaches track and field, and helps organize the Wyvern Invitational A Cappella Festival, southern New Englandâs largest high school a cappella competition. David attended Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York, where he was a Filene Music Scholar in voice and sang in the all-male a cappella group, The Skidmore Bandersnatchers. From 2005 to 2007, David performed with and directed the professional a cappella group The Vineyard Sound on Marthaâs Vineyard. Over the past fifteen years, David has sung with the West Hartford Symphony Orchestra (WHSO) numerous times and has performed at the Bushnell as a featured soloist. Currently, he lives in West Hartford with his wife Kata, Dean of Students at KO, his kids, Callan and Andrew, and his dog, Dobby. Baker trains for and races in ultramarathons and triathlons in his spare time. Director: Andrew Siribansop (aka Andrew Kim) Andrew is a professional a cappella singer, musical arranger, and audio and video producer based in New York City. He earned his Bachelor of Music in Music Composition from Northwestern University and his Master of Music in Film Scoring from New York University. In 2013, Andrew founded, music directed, produced, and arranged for the professional pop a cappella group Backtrack Vocals, which boasts over 13 million views and 113,000 subscribers on YouTube. With Backtrack, Andrew performed at Carnegie Hall, the Beacon Theatre, the United Nations, during the Broadway show Kinky Boots, and on the Steve Harvey Show. Andrew is also the founder and director of Iris Vocal Trio, winners of the 2018 International A Cappella Open. The trio has performed at notable venues including the Berklee Performance Center, Green Room 42, and Carnegie Hall. In addition to his performance and directing roles, Andrew is a sought-after vocal arranger and producer, offering custom and stock arrangements for a cappella groups and vocal ensembles of all levels. Andrew has been a part of the Camp KO team for ten years, sharing his expertise in music and production with aspiring musicians and he is an alum of the Kingswood Oxford Middle School. To view our Camp Day Schedule, enter here.  Program Description: Students will have the opportunity to explore songwriting through the use of instruments and modern day DAWâs (Digital Audio Workstation) such as GarageBand and Ableton Live. This camp will offer students a wide variety of interesting and exciting musical options to capture and hold their interest. Any and all of the following aspects of songwriting can be explored: singing, piano, guitar, bass, beat making (for hip-hop and other genres). We will take the entire group and work with individuals on their respective interests in order to bring everyone together on one composition/track.  Creating original music is one of the most thrilling aspects of music and provides students with a unique sense of accomplishing something entirely their own. Music composition is also powerful at bringing together students with diverse levels of ability through creating a common ground through the fundamentals of music: melody, rhythm, harmony, lyricism, and improvisation. Meet Your Instructor: Adam Barley Adam has been teaching and performing music professionally for over 15 years. I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Carson Newman University and a Master’s Degree from Belmont University in Nashville TN. My areas of focus are guitar, voice, piano and electronic music production. I have many years experience performing covers and original material in various genres/styles including: pop, rock, funk, blues, fusion and electronica. Music is a powerful force: I am very thankful to have the ability and privilege to share my love for what has been the most significant passion in my life.

Can your group solve the puzzles in time to earn the prize? In this full-day program we wonât just solve puzzles, weâll also design and build them — we will create the escape room itself! Perfect for kids who like creating and solving puzzles, as well as those who like building things by hand and doing art projects, this program will keep everyone buzzing with codes, ciphers, and clues at all levels of difficulty. Brain breaks and exercise/games will be included, too. Kids will gain confidence and develop persistence as they work together on this week-long project, culminating in a Friday showcase for other campers and parents. Come join the joy of puzzles and design! Meet Your Instructor: Dan Gleason Dan Gleason teaches English at Kingswood Oxford. He currently teaches English to 9th grade students, and he also teaches seniors in two electives (Literatures of Climate Change; Know Yourself). Prior to KO he taught English at the high school and college level outside of Chicago; he has also taught in California and Japan. He holds a B.A. in English from Pomona College, a Ph.D. in English from Northwestern University, and an M.A. in Educational Administration from the University of Illinois. A lover of word games and music, Dan lives with his wife, 11-year-old twins, and two cats in West Hartford. Â Program Description: Get ready to take charge of your financial future in this dynamic and hands-on camp introducing the essentials of personal finance! In Money Matters, campers step into the world of money management, gaining practical skills and real-life understanding that will benefit them for years to come. Throughout the week, students will explore engaging units on budgeting, credit, investing, and financial independence preparedness. Theyâll learn how everyday financial decisionsâfrom spending choices to planning aheadâcan impact their long-term goals. With age-appropriate lessons and relatable examples, campers gain clarity on money concepts that often arenât taught until much later. A highlight of the week is our exciting stock market simulation, where campers will use computers to build virtual investment portfolios, track market changes, and make strategic buying and selling decisions. As they compete to grow their simulated wealth, students learn how the stock market works, what influences prices, and how investors balance risk and reward. Campers will also participate in practical budgeting and consumer decision-making activities that encourage them to compare costs, evaluate value, and think critically about money in a real-world context. By the end of the program, students will have built a strong foundation in financial literacyâempowering them to make informed choices, set goals, and approach their financial futures with confidence. Meet your Instructor: Jimmy Oxsalida Jimmy and his family recently returned to Connecticut after living in Miami, where he served as the Dean of Students, math teacher, and coach at Ransom Everglades School. In his first year at Kingswood Oxford, he taught Geometry and Intro to Finance, and coached the JV girlsâ basketball team. Jimmy holds a BA from Emmanuel College and a Masterâs in Education from the University of Florida. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter, playing golf, and working on cars.

Using the same tools behind modern websites, campers will build interactive experiences where buttons trigger actions, scores increase, timers count down, and choices change outcomes. Throughout the week, students will build fun, hands-on projects like memory games, click-based challenges, simple keyboard-controlled games, and interactive stories that they can share with family and friends. By the end of the program, students wonât just understand how interactive games and apps workâtheyâll have created their own and gained confidence as creators, not just consumers. Along the way, theyâll learn how computers follow instructions, make decisions, and track whatâs happening on the screenâall in a supportive, beginner-friendly environment. This course is perfect for curious students who enjoy games, problem-solving, and creative thinking. Campers are guided step-by-step by an instructor who works professionally in web development and knows how to explain complex ideas in a clear, approachable way. Coding experience with HTML and CSS is required. If your child has taken our Coding Sampler course in the past, they will have enough experience.  Meet Your Instructor: Arissa Fram â10 Arissa Fram, a KO graduate, is a software engineer with eight years of professional experience building modern, interactive websites with Javascript and other frontend technologies. Driven by a lifelong curiosity about how the web works, she enrolled in a coding school and never looked back. Since then, she has worked on large-scale web platforms alongside engineers of all levels and enjoys helping others understand whatâs really happening behind the scenes when you explore the web: Why does this button make something jump? How did that picture move across the screen like magic? Outside of work, Arissa enjoys solving puzzles, biking to Coney Island, and seeing live music.

Through hands-on, process-oriented experiences, students will investigate paint application, color theory, spatial relationships, composition, abstraction, and self-expression. While working in watercolor and other color media, students will build observational drawing skills and expressive approaches to color while strengthening visual problem-solving, critical thinking, and creative decision-making. This inclusive course welcomes beginners and students with prior experience. Emphasis is placed on experimentation, persistence, and personal growth within a supportive, collaborative studio environment, where students are encouraged to take ownership of their work, embrace challenges, and develop confidence in their artistic voice.  Meet your Instructor: Robbie Terenzio Robbie is a middle school art teacher who is extremely passionate about making connections, forming partnerships, and creatively transforming the conceptual into the tangible. Several of his works in 2D and graphic design have been selected and featured in local exhibitions. As a school teacher, Robbie seeks to inspire beauty and creativity within studentsâ work while constructing and curating positive, emboldening experiences.
