“Really impressed by the considerations put into making it a safe space for kids to be creative and free with their writing! Getting to hear all the kids read their work was awesome. Our daughter loved her experience. Thank you!”

Program Information:Â
Whether you already love to write or just have ideas youâd like to get on the page, this six-week Creative Writing Workshop is a place to experiment, create, and have fun with words.
Each week, writers will explore a different way to bring their ideas to lifeâfrom creating vivid similes and metaphors to writing realistic dialogue, experimenting with poetry, and turning personal experiences into compelling stories. Some writing will be individual, some collaborative, and there will always be room for students to follow their own creative direction.
Â
Week 1 â Finding Inspiration
Discover how ordinary momentsâeven the quiet onesâcan become great starting points for writing.
Â
Week 2 â Who Am I?
Create a poetic biography using words, memories, interests, and experiences to tell the story of you.
Â
Week 3 â Make Your Writing Come Alive
Experiment with similes, metaphors, and figurative language through a collaborative writing challenge.
Â
Week 4 â Letâs Talk!
Learn how great dialogue gives characters personality and moves a story forward, then create scenes and conversations with a partner.
Â
Week 5 â Then & Now
Explore change through the prompt âI used to be…but now I am…â and see where your writing takes you.
Â
Week 6 â The Creative Writing Challenge
Put everything together in a fast-paced final session filled with surprise prompts, timed challenges, collaborative storytelling, and plenty of creative freedom. Writers might be handed an unexpected character, setting, object, or opening line and challenged to turn it into a short story, scene, poem, comedy sketchâor something completely unexpected.

Instructor: Kyle Chapman
Kyle Chapman is a passionate Middle School English teacher and dedicated athletic coach at Kingswood Oxford School, known for inspiring a love for storytelling, critical thinking, and communication in his students. At Camp KO, he brings that same classroom energy to life, fostering an environment where young learners can build confidence and sharp leadership skills.
Â
While he is primarily focused on the academic growth of his students, Coach Chapman also infuses his programs with lessons from his unique collegiate basketball background at the University of Connecticut. His hoop journey includes serving as a practice squad training player for Geno Auriemmaâs legendary UConn Women’s basketball team. Whether analyzing a great text or guiding students on the court, Kyle excels at helping students master their fundamentals, collaborate with peers, and find their unique voices.
