The Wyverns (1-2-1) suffered their second loss of the season, losing to Kent 6-5 in extra innings on Saturday afternoon at Kent School.
Kingswood Oxford jumped on Kent’s starting pitcher early, scoring 3 runs in the top of the first. Left fielder, Mike Demio ‘21, got the Wyverns going with a lead off single, Sam Smith ‘21 was hit by a pitch before Jack Marshall ‘20 stepped to the plate and singled in Demio. Senior, Jack Johnson ‘19, ripped a sharp base hit to right, and Connor Patenaude ‘19 drove in Smith and Marshall for a 3-0 lead.
The Kent Lions responded in the bottom half of the first, with 2 runs off of Wyvern starting pitcher Brandon Stake ‘20. Stake gave up 1 more run in the sixth inning before exiting the game with the score knotted at 3-3. Stake pitched a solid 6 innings, giving up 3 runs on 5 hits, 1 walk, and struck out 4 Lions.
The Wyverns took a 5-3 lead in the top of the seventh, but could not hold off the Lions. Kent tied the game in the eighth, before winning the game in extra innings 6-5.
Jack Marshall and Sam Smith led the Wyverns offense, each with 2 hits, and 2 RBI’s.
