In their hardest fought battle of the season yet, KO’s JV Basketball boys took their first loss of the season to the Taft School 43-50. As Taft took to the court with a tall team and a few good shooters, the Wyverns went down nine points in opening minutes of the game; the rebuttal was swift as freshman trio Beckett Ryan ’27, Sebastian Cotte ’27, and Tyler Bergquist brought the game back to 10-12 with 11 minutes to go in the first half. Cotte scored a dozen of the Wyverns’ 21 at the end of the half, and halftime marked a change in momentum for KO. Coach Walker adjusted the team’s defense to limit Taft’s ability to drive, forcing their shooters to the boundaries of the key and stopping their charge ahead. With 10 minutes remaining in the game, the Wyverns had brought the score so close once again at 30-34. Xavier Hernandez-Newton ’27 took home lead scorer in the second half with 9 nine points of 21. Nevertheless, the game was lost on rebounds in review. While Taft’s scorers outshot ours, the team has their sights set on rebounds on both sides of the court as they look ahead to Pomfret this Saturday.
