Football – Boys JV vs Wilbraham & Monson Academy – Home

Win 21-20

The Kingswood Oxford JV football team played host again, this time to the Wilbraham Monson Titans on a cold, cloudy fall day. The festivities started with a great red zone defensive stop with an excellent tackle for a loss by Teddy Ristaino ’28. The Wyvern offense then took the ball 80 yards on 9 plays capped by an excellent 25 yard TD run by John Sokale ’27 to help give the Wyverns an early 7-0 lead. Strong Defensive play on both sides, only more score occurred before the break. Wilbraham was able to get on the board in the 2nd quarter after stopping the Wyvern offense and we went into halftime leading 7-6. In the 2nd half, Wilbraham capitalized on a few wyvern miscues and were able to seize momentum going up 20-7 in the 4th quarter with 5 minutes to play. The Wyverns showed excellent resilience. With critical plays needing to be made, Jordan Cipriano ’26 led a 12 play 70 yard drive, culminating in a Joseph Small ’27 3 yard TD catch in the back of the endzone. With the score 20-13 with 2 minutes to play the Wyvern defense held strong with excellent plays by Aryan Dange ’25, Max Huang ’25 and Sokale ’27. The three biggest plays of the game occurred back to back to back. First Dange ’25 and Sokale ’27 broke through the line and blocked the Wilbraham Punt giving the Wyverns the ball on the Wilbraham 31 yard line. From there with excellent pass blocking by Ashton Binalla ’27, Ristaino ’28, and Jackson Poulin ’26, Cipriano ’26 hit Xavier Hernandez-Newton ’27, in stride for a massive 31 yard TD score. Down 20-19 the Wyverns elected to go for 2 in a win or lose play situation. Cipriano ’26 and Hernandez-Newton ’27 again came up clutch, delivering a game winning pass and catch for the 2pt conversion. Up 21-20 the Wyvern defense stopped Wilbraham’s final attempts and secured the dramatic victory. The JV team will look to continue its winning ways when they travel to New Haven, CT next Wednesday 10/25 to play the Hopkins School. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 PM
