Football – Boys Varsity vs Dexter Southfield School – Away

Loss 20-28

The Kingswood Oxford football team travelled to Brookline, MA on a gorgeous fall Thursday night to take on the perennial powerhouse Dexter Southfield.

The Wyverns would not back down from a bigger, older, larger team. The scoring traded back and forth with Dexter getting on the board first to take an early 7-0 lead. Nathan Bowes ’24 then helped lead the Wyvern Offense down the field, capped by a fantastic TD run by Bowes from 10 yards out to open the scoring. However, the Wyverns were unable to capitalize on Dexter misalignment on the 2pt conversion attempt and trailed 7-6 after 1 quarter. Defenses were strong all game leading to multiple punts in the first half. The Wyvern offense was ignited by an incredible 29 yard catch by Rhandyn Bair ’24, pushing the ball deep into Dexter territory late in the first half. With time running out the Wyverns found themselves at the 1 yard line with 1 second left in the half. A great Offensive Line push, led by Julian Przecioksa ’25, Nicklas Chomko ’26 Chief Ebana ’24, Evan Tyler ’25, Lex Green ’26 and Travis Parsons ’25, got Bowes into the endzone on a Qb sneak. From there Stephen Bailey ’25 connected with Bair on a phenomenal 2pt pass to go into the half 14-7 and all the momentum was with KO.

Dexter came out all cylinders firing in the 2nd half and marched down the field to even the game at 14. From there, the KO offense sputtered and Dexter seemed to take control of the game up 20-14 late in the 4th, but the Wyvers showed no quit. On a simple run play Parsons stripped the ball from the Dexter RB and Sanford Cloud ’25, scooped the ball up and took it 69 yards all the way back for a miraculous defensive TD. The ensuing XP was no good, tying the game 20-20 with 3 minutes to play. The Wyvern defense could not hold the tie and a secondary miscommunication led to Dexter scoring the game winning TD.

The Wyverns held strong and proved they belong at the top of New England Prep School football. We must learn and continue to grow together as we travel next Saturday to New Canaan, CT to take on a familiar foe: St Luke’s School.
