Football – Boys Varsity vs St. Paul’s School – Home

Varsity Football

The Kingswood Oxford Football team hosted the St. Paul’s School from Concord, NH on a perfect fall afternoon. A tough test for the Wyverns playing a division higher opponent they did not back down. St. Paul’s was able to start the game running the ball effectively getting into the redzone and ultimately scoring on their 2nd drive to lead 6-0. A phenomenal heads up play by Colton Bowes ’27 who sniffed out the fake PAT attempt and broke up the pass to keep the score at 6-0. A huge INT by Xavier Hernandez-Newton ’27 with great QB pressure by Cameron Thomas ’26 helped flip the momentum to KO in the 2nd quarter. On the next offensive drive Justin Ocasio ’27 hit Hernandez-Newton ’27 for a huge 24 yard TD pass. Jordan Cipriano ’26 added the PAT to make it 7-6. On the ensuing kickoff, Cipriano ’26, executed a perfect squib/onside kick and Cameron Thomas ’26 secured the football giving KO field position immediately in the redzone. The offense was able to move the ball into FG range and Cipriano ’26 drilled a 33 yard FG to lead 10-6. St Paul was able to rally, returning the next kickoff and then adding one more score on a KO fumble, before half to lead 20-10. The KO defense held firm the rest of the way pitching a shutout and forced a turnover on downs multiple times in the redzone. Offense found their groove and dominated the 4th quarter. The play of the game came when the Ocasio – Hernandez-Newton ’27 connection struck again , this time for a 92 yard TD pass, the longest for KO in recent history. Momentum now with KO and the defense playing strong, KO got the ball back with 3 minutes to go. Picking apart the Big Red defense, the Wyverns marched down to the opponents 40 yard line. Ocasio ’27 now completing his last 7 passes, hit DJ Biggins ’26 perfectly, and Biggins ’26 made a spectacular catch with a defender right there to score and give KO the lead 24-20. Offense did their job and the stingy Wyvern defense finished the deal. Great pressure on the QB including a huge team sack by Noah Patrei ’27, Jacob Say ’27 and Jason Mathews ’26 and excellent secondary play, the St Paul’s offense was unable to score and turned the ball over resulting in a huge victory for the Wyverns. Now 5-1 on the season they turn their sights on New Hampton, for a road trip to New Hampshire, to play on Saturday October 25th 2:00 pm Kickoff.
