On an unusually warm (80 degrees) October day, we played Covenant Prep, whose team has both skill and speed. It was clear that the first goal would be quite important, and we were fortunate to get on the board first. Taking advantage of a direct kick, Connor Morris (Form 2) played quickly and intelligently to deliver a great ball into 6 yard box, and Jake Schwartz (Form 1) connected on a rebound to put us up 1-0. Shortly after, we went up 2-0 on another Jake Schwartz goal assisted by Jeremiah Moyano (Form 1). Moyano controlled the midfield quite well throughout the game, showing his vision and skills. Play was back and forth for much of the half, and towards the end of the half midfielder Sam Golino (Form1) scored on a nice hustle play, assisted by Colin O’Shaughnessy, to stretch the lead to 3-0 at the break. The second half was very even in terms of possession and opportunities, as KO scored the fourth and final goal on a Sam Golino shot that deflected off a defender. KO’s three goalkeepers (Jackson Ramsey (Form 2), Oliver Nicholson (Upper Prep), and Parker Lacroix (Upper Prep) combined for the shutout. Each of them handled every shot, including Lacroix stopping a penalty kick in the final seconds of the game. The player of the game was Aaron Anstead (Form 2), who time and again made selfless recovery runs to track down Covenant Prep forwards. Next up is the always strong and talented Har Bur team, so we will have to play our best game yet.
