Soccer – Boys Varsity vs Westminster School – Home

Varsity Boys Soccer

On Saturday, Oct. 6 the boys varsity soccer team host to Westminster School where the Wyverns were able to come out with a 2-1 victory and kept an unbeaten record.

The team came out of the starting whistle fast and aggressive, as within the first three/four minutes of regulation Junior Nick Hamzavi had converted a penalty kick, giving the Wyverns a 1-0 advantage. The boys continued to fight hard for the remainder of the first half despite losing their best defensive player in Junior Kyler Dzielak. Near the end of the first half, Junior Niko Rodriguez was able to get a shot off and extend the Wyverns lead to 2-0, which helped give the Wyverns a decent two goal advantage after the first 45 minutes of play.
The second half posed multiple problems for the team as the loss of Dzielak in the defense left a hole that was difficult to fill by just one person, but players such as Junior Brandon Stake, sophomore Chris Sienko, sophomore Hunter Meshanic and Freshman Aidan Dillow stepped up and played well. Despite the game getting chippy as it neared the end, the Wyverns kept their composure and played well as they limited the high pressuring Westminster offense to only one goal in the second half, which allowed the team to remain undefeated. Both captains Senior Aidan Shea and Junior Jackson Wolff played very well to organize the midfield.
The varsity soccer team will be traveling to Kent School on Wednesday, Oct. 10 where the team hopes to continue what they have been doing best thus far. Winning.
