Winton, Bittner, Keane Memorial Jamboree vs Wethersfield High School – Away (scrimmage)
V Boys Soccer
The Kingswood Oxford Boys Varsity Soccer team was invited for the 21st consecutive year to the Winton, Keane, Bittner 9/11 Memorial Jamboree at Wethersfield High School.
Jeffrey Bittner ‘92 was a KO alumnus and honoree of the Primus Medal who passed as a result of the tragic events on September 11th, 2001, and the Wyverns have been invitees of the memorial in his honor since its inception in 2003. KO began the day with a 0-0 draw against the hosts, which saw chances for both sides but in just a 30 minute match the time was not enough for either the Wyverns or Eagles to break through. The next foe for the black and crimson was Staples, and while KO played a largely dominant half-hour of soccer, the best chances came for their opponents, who nearly scored on three separate occasions, but Sawyer Burtman ‘26 was stout between the posts and allowed for another scoreless draw. Despite the focus of the jamboree being much larger than wins and losses, the Wyverns were eager to put the ball in the back of the net, and were finally able to do so against Tolland. Corey Nguyen ‘26 rang the post in the 19th minute, but Jack Neikrie ‘25 was on clean up duty and easily slotted the rebound into the back of the net to give KO the victory in their final contest of the day.
The Wyverns head to Suffield on September 10 for the WNE Prep Showcase before their regular season begins at Hotchkiss on September 13.
