Soccer – Girls Varsity vs Kent School – Away

Girls Varsity Soccer

The KO girls soccer team traveled to Kent for a Founders League game on Wednesday. KO dominated play for most of the first half taking 5 shots on goal while holding Kent to 0 shots. However, KO could not find the back of the net and the halftime score was 0-0. Loren Roca, Nadia Silmon, and Serena Zhou played well in the first half taking shots and distributing the ball to their teammates. Both teams controlled the ball more consistently to start the second half generating chances but the defenses disallowed any goals. Kent was able to take advantage of a KO giveaway in the midfield with 27 minutes left in the game and scored to take a 1-0 lead. KO was able to slowly control play after that goal which led to 3 shots in the next 5 minutes. At the 20 minute mark, KO was able to break through as Mackenzie Cahill struck a 25 yard shot that sailed over the GK’s hand and skimmed under the crossbar to even the score at 1-1. With 12 minutes left in the game, KO was awarded a free kick 30 yards from goal that was struck beautifully by Loren Roca allowing Naomi Diffenderfer to run onto it and score the winning goal. Naomi leads the team with 5 goals this season. The defense consisting of GK Lizzie Raccio, and backs Taylor Caldwell, Gianna Guerrera, Giuliana Fuzzard, and Ari Salek played the entire game and held strong to preserve the victory. Olivia Adamowicz, Nadia Silmon, Loren Roca, and Serena Zhou played well in the midfield. KO will try to get to 5 wins when they play Pomfret on Saturday.
