Softball – Girls Varsity vs School of the Holy Child – Away

Varsity Softball

It came down to the final out in the final inning that put us ahead. Niamh Foley led the team in hitting with two homeruns, Sophia Radmanovich and Georgia Louis were defensive standouts.
 .

What we got was a close battle that ended in a tie due to darkness, and we were confident that a win was well within reach.
Our defense was solid despite some occasional big hits from the other team and the challenge of playing on an increasingly dark field. Kyra Dunnirvine ’23 started off smoothly in the 1st inning with 2 strikeouts, and continued to dominate the mound with 3 more strikeouts and a few key grounders fielded for outs at 1st throughout the game. There was a strong effort in the outfield with Kaylee Diaz ’19Brigid Bernier ’19, and Gabi Abramson ’22 chasing down every ball to hold down the other team’s score.
The team is always aiming to make a statement with our at-bats, and this game was no exception. Olivia Pear ’21 continued to execute her clutch slap hitting to set the manufacturing of runs in motion. With 2 runners on in the 1st inning. Lexi Vail ’22 sent a ball sailing over the center fielder for a triple and our first 2 runs of the game. To fill up the bases in the 3rd, Brie Toedt ’21 smashed a grounder past 2nd base, and a series of walks, players hit by pitches, and a masterful bunt by Caitlin Budzik ’21 allowed the Wyverns to take the lead. Jocelyn Ram ’20 finished off the team’s hits in the 4th (the final inning) with a well-placed blooper past 3rd base, reaching 3rd after an overthrow.
With runs produced from a combination of hits and strategic at-bats, we came out of this game with a positive outlook for our offense. The next game against Cheshire will be a chance to really put that offense to the test.
