Boys Varsity Swim & Dive
On the boy’s side, our gentlemen struck hard and fast, bringing down the St. George’s Dragons in short order.
To begin the meet, in the 200-yard Medley Relay, Ethan Brown (’20), Jamie Amell (’20), Ellis Winfree (’19) and Kyle Zimmerman (’18) took first place with a fast time of 1:47.84, almost a full second ahead of the A relay team from STG. Ben Zamstein (’20), Tom Betts (’19), Kian Issari (’18) and Carter Castanza (’18) came in second with a finishing time of 1:59.06, with both teams going under the all-important 2-minute mark. Eden Nenshati (’22), Prith Gunturu (’18), Walter Kraus (’21) and co-captain Kevin Augustine (’18) snuck into fifth place, posting a time of 2:04.58. Brown came back to win the 200-yard Freestyle event, going 1:52.41, a full six seconds ahead of the second-place swimmer from STG. In the same event, Nick Traver (’20) and co-captain Jaron Stake (’18) took third and fourth, respectively, with times of 1:58.98 and 2:00.03. Zimmerman took first place in the 200-yard Individual Medley, going 2:14.63, and Amell grabbed third, posting a time of 2:20.92. Betts aided further in the Wyvern dominance of the meet in the same event, taking fourth place with a time of 2:22.25. Tim Petit (’18) fought hard to win the 50-yard Freestyle sprint event, going :23.08, followed closely by co-captain Harry Krause (’18) in third with a time of 25.08. Castanza took fourth with a time of :25.50, and Nenshati squeaked into sixth with a time of :27.91, just nudging out the swimmer from STG by .4 seconds. Castanza won the 1-meter springboard event, scoring a total of 156.55 points, a full 77 points ahead of the diver from St. George’s. Winfree took a second-place in a very tight race in the 100-yard Butterfly, going :59.90, just breaking the 1-minute mark in the event, and Issari was just behind him in third, posting a finishing time of 1:01.16. Felix Fei (’21) swam in the same event, grabbing a fifth place for one point, and he posted a time of 1:06.46. Petit won the 100-yard Freestyle, going a full three seconds ahead of the second-place swimmer, and he just missed the 50-second barrier with a time of :50.30. Traver came in third place (:54.50), and Krause posted a time of :55.42 to grab fourth. These three finishes gave the Wyverns 11 points. Stake went to the 500-yard Freestyle, and he won it with a time of 5:27.87, pulling out in front to a comfortable lead with six lengths to go. Fei joined him the event, and he posted a third-place time of 6:04.12, with Kraus finishing in fourth with a time of 6:12.55. These three swimmers gave the boys yet another 11 points toward a larger margin going into the last four events. Our 200-yard Freestyle Relay teams took first, second and fourth places (12 more points), and then Brown came back to win the 100-yard Backstroke by 2.5 seconds (:58.24), with Zamstein taking fourth (1:18.87). From this moment on, there was no way the Dragons could catch the Wyverns, and the boys finished them off in the 4 x 100 Freestyle Relay at the end. Truly, the KO boys’ team hit the pool at top speed in the first event, and they never looked back. It was a solid meet, and both squads go against their arch nemesis, Westminster School, on February 7th. Go Wyverns!
