Tennis – Boys JV vs Avon Old Farms School – Home

JV Boys Tennis

On Saturday, the Wyverns hosted long-time rival, Avon Old Farms, in one of the most exciting finishes in JV tennis history.

Our doubles teams took 2 out of 3 matches to win the point overall, giving us an edge toward victory. At #1 doubles, James Ravalese (’20) and Matt Marottolo (’20) took down their opponent by a close margin of 9 games to 8, and at #2, Rabih Chughtai (’19) and Jon Fu (’19) won their match by a score of 8 to 4. At #3, two new members, Ajay Ganesh (’22) and Shumayl Syed (’22) dropped their match by a score of 2 games to 8. At #1 singles, Jaden Weinstein (’21) outlasted a very steady player to win his match by a score of 8 to 4. Koby Braunstein (’22), who has been battling shoulder problems all season, was unable to reign in his opponent, dropping his match 4 games to 8. Drini Puka (’21) lost a close one 6 games to 8, and Ethan Raisner (’21) couldn’t seem to fend off his opponent, losing 3 games to 8. Aaron Rotter (’22) easily won his match at #4, winning 8 games to 3, so that brought it down to Charlie Coxon (’19) at #6 singles. His match went on for what seemed like an eternity, yet Charlie was victorious in this battle of nerves, steady shots and controlled emotions on both players’ parts. Charlie beat him 9 games to 8, and took the 7 out of 12 point tiebreaker by a score of 7 points to 4. When the match ended, the KO bench went wild, screaming and cheering, since this is the first time that we have beaten AOF on our home turf in a very long time. It was a fitting way to end Spring Sports Day here at home, and the boys were on Cloud 9 when they finally got together for team pictures and a huge cheer. Our hats are off to this tough, well trained group of young men who proved that you cannot keep a good Wyvern down. Well done and Go Wyverns! We are looking forward to hosting another rival of ours in our next match, Hamden Hall.
