Tennis – Boys Varsity vs Salisbury School – Away

Varsity Boys Tennis

The final match of the year proved to be one of the most exciting in recent memory.

Salisbury is a strong team, and we knew this would be a close match. They were missing their #2 player, and we were missing our #3 (Adam Sonntag) and #5 Avi Shastri, so both teams had to go deep into their lineups. Salisbury earned the doubles point with wins at 1 and 3 (KO’s Max-William Kanz and Teddy Keegan won at #2). So, KO needed to win 4 of the 6 singles matches. Salisbury’s exceptional #1 player outlasted Luke Riemann, who played some of his better tennis of the season to finish a remarkable 4 year career at KO that includes a New England Class A title as well as a 2nd place finish. Salisbury earned a hard fought win at #5 as Jacob Schwartz competed really hard but ultimately lost 7-6 in the second set. Max-William Kanz, jumping up to #2 singles based on his exceptional play throughout the season, won in straight sets. The other three matches, #3, #4, #6 would all come down to 3rd set super tiebreakers. Adam Na rallied from a set down to win 4-6, 6-1, 10-6 at #3 singles, and Teddy Keegan won his 3rd set tiebreaker 10-6 as well. At this point the match was all tied up at 3-3, and it came down to sophomore Jaden Weinstein at #6. the score was 4-6, 6-4, and they played a super breaker. Jaden played an awesome tiebreaker, taking the initiative and dictating points to win 10-5. It was a great moment for him, as he has battled some sickness and been patient waiting for his time to play. KO finishes the season with an 8-5 record, A big thanks to our seniors, Luke Riemann, Adam Sonntag, Andrew Holland, Michael Autorino, and Jack Gao.
