Tennis – Boys Varsity vs Salisbury School – Away
Boys Varsity Tennis
This was our final match of the season, and as fate would have it, the winner of this match between KO and Salisbury would secure the 8th and final spot in the Class B New England tourney. We were scheduled to play at Salisbury, but due to the fact that rain was quite possible and KO has indoor courts, Salisbury agreed to travel to KO for the match. It was a classy move and much appreciated. Both teams knew this would likely be a 4-3 match based upon nearly identical results against common opponents. That prediction was spot on. KO secured the doubles point with wins at #1 (Concepcion and Blair) and a comeback win at #3 (Gaddipati and L. Barash). Salisbury had an impressive comeback at #2 doubles. The singles saw dominant wins by both teams, as KO earned convincing wins at #1 (Concepcion) and #2 (Blair), while Salisbury earned equally convincing wins at #3,5, and 6.
The lone singles match that was very close was #4, as KO’s freshman Neil Reddy played really well against an older and big hitting opponent. Reddy came back from a 6-3, 3-2 deficit to win the second set 6-3. However, his opponent played a nearly flawless supertiebreaker en route to a 10-3 win. We would not have even had a chance at victory without Reddy digging deep to force a third set. The overall match, starting with doubles and going through the last singles point, was what high school tennis should be. Great competition and excellent sportsmanship. While the team loss was heartbreaking for us, as we were so close to reaching the post-season, we came along way since last season and the future is bright. We will miss our four seniors, Jacob Barash, Aryan Dange, Will Maclean, and Kiran Sekaran, and wish them well next year:
