In their second match of the season, KO’s Middle School A Tennis Team traveled to Hamden Hall Country Day School on April 9, and it was clear from the moment they stepped on the court that the team came ready to compete. With a focused warm-up and quick adjustments to the outdoor playing conditions, KO players demonstrated notable improvements in consistency, footwork, and match strategy across all positions.
Singles Standouts:
At No. 1 singles, Aashir Mathur battled back from a 3-6 deficit to tie the match at 6-6 before narrowly losing 6-8. His perseverance and improved consistency were on full display as he challenged a strong opponent with a powerful forehand.
Reid Burtman dominated his match, neutralizing his opponent’s solid groundstrokes with steady play and sharp volleys. His ability to finish points at the net marked a clear improvement from the previous week.
Mason Benavides, Kate Pfadenhauer, Anay Setru, and A.J. Garcia each played with poise and professionalism, staying focused despite sunny skies and occasional wind. Their consistent execution and mental toughness led to solid victories.
Doubles Excellence:
All three KO doubles pairs came away with commanding wins. Gabe Chapman and Sara Litzendorf, Evan Moray and Connor Mahoney, and Vysh Setru and Nina Matamana performed with confidence and control, never letting the matches slip out of hand.
The team’s sportsmanship and character throughout the day were equally impressive, making the coach proud of both their performance and attitude. To celebrate the well-earned victory, the team made a cheerful stop at Dairy Queen before heading back home — a sweet reward for a job well done.
