V Football

It was the perfect way to end Hewett Day on the Hoffman Turf field as the Kingswood Oxford football team defeated one of the top teams in New England, the Canterbury Saints, 38-37 in overtime.

It was an incredible game of grit and perseverance as the scoring alternated the entire game with no team being able to pull away.  In Overtime tied 30-30 the Saints started with the ball. They scored on a 37 yard TD pass on a 4th and 20 to go up 37-30.  The Wyverns had no quit knowing they would get a chance with the ball.   The offense just needed 2 plays with an incredible run by Nathan Bowes ’24 from 25 yards out to get the score to 37-36. With the XP looming the Wyverns went for it all, going for 2 points in a win or lose play situation. Bowes ’24 number was called again, scoring on a QB run from 3 yards out to secure the win 38-37 in walk off fashion.

Offensively Bowes ’24 was electric accounting for over 450 yards of offense and 5 TDs. The Offensive Line of Evan Tyler ’25, Jaedan Curcio ’23, Julian Przecioska ’25, Chief Ebana ’24 and Geordan Robertson ’23, were incredible all game in pass and run blocking helping the offense amass over 500 yards on the day. Rhandyn Bair ’24 was incredible all game leading the team with 9 receptions, scoring 2 TD and 2 key interceptions defensively. Chase Fountain ’23 was fantastic guarding their best player all game, and made one of the plays of the game going for a 90 yard TD reception late in the 3rd quarter.  Defensively, Ebana ’24 led the way with 6 tackles, 2 tackles for a loss, 1 sack and blocked the potential Canterbury game winning extra point in the 4th quarter.  Dom Dinuzzo ’24 made 2 crucial defensive plays sniffing out a screen pass and stopping a runner, late in the 4th that would have been sure touchdowns.  So many contributors to this game that it was truly a full team win!

The Wyverns will travel next week to New Hampshire to take on the undefeated St Paul Big Red next Saturday 10/22/22 for a 2:30pm scheduled kickoff.
