Varsity Volleyball vs Kent School – Away

V Volleyball

The Varsity Volleyball team produced a solid 3-0 win against Kent, combining great serving with adaptive offensive plays to stay ahead in each set.

In the first set, the Wyverns were ready to go despite the long trip, and co-captain Jill Plaut ‘23 was igniting our offense with well placed sets to all three of our front-row hitters. This allowed co-captain Keira Sullivan ‘23 to really go for her hits on the outside and find the perfect angles to sneakily slip between the blocks from Kent. Alex Segal ‘25 began what would be a series of powerful service runs for KO, absolutely pummeling the ball across the net and into the corners of Kent’s side of the court. The next server to build on Segal’s serving success was Lola Peck ‘26, who has made a habit of confusing our opponents with spinning and soaring serves to the open court. On defense, Eve Repp ‘23 was a sentinel at the net on the right side, ready to shut down opportunities for the opponent’s outside hitters. After gaining a healthy lead, the Wyverns stayed ahead through the end of the set. Quin Kearney ‘23 served us out with poise after pulling off some fantastic digs deep in the back row. KO took the set 25-13.

The opening points of the second set were highly contentious and left both teams looking for the answer to give them a solid lead. KO found that answer in Allie Arcaro ‘24’s serve, during which she led the team to 7 points in a row, and forced 1 of what would be 2 timeouts on her serve. Kearney followed suit on the service line and swung us into an even greater lead. Never one to sit out of an offensive movement for the team, Plaut added some brutally effective attacking pushes to the mix. The point of the match came in the second half of the set, when a key block from Plaut slowed down a hit from the outside, allowing Jillian Alexander ‘24 to perfectly set Sullivan on the opposite side of the court and Sullivan to definitively fire the ball into Kent’s open court. What teamwork! The Wyverns once again took the set 25-13.

In the third and final set, the whole team contributed to securing KO’s victory. Lila Klinzmann ‘27 was vigilant on serve receive and pulled off a few impossible digs off of the opponents attacks. In a dramatic and key play, Cici Freeman ‘24 stayed determined and saved a ball that was passed into the net, and Repp joined in to save the ball once again and send it over the net. Jhanvi Daddala ‘23 stepped up to the service line and launched consistent shallow serves that hampered the opponent’s offensive response and set KO up for success in several key points. Near the end of the set, the Plaut-Sullivan tag team worked their magic for several kills that ensured the Wyverns’ victory, and we took the set 25-17. It was another full-team effort that the Wyverns can be proud of. Go KOVB!
