Volleyball – Girls Varsity vs Cheshire Academy – Away

Varsity Volleyball

KOVB had a great win over last year’s New England Champions, Cheshire Academy this Monday at Cheshire.

KO came out strong to start the match and quickly took the lead in set one. With solid passing on serve receive, consistent serving, and smart offensive play, KO kept control of that lead to secure the first set win.  Set two saw Cheshire come out to a quick 6 point lead with strong serving from their first server. KO wasn’t rattled however, and gradually regained momentum with strong offense from Sydney Smith and strong serving by Isa Raymond.  Madi Henry and Kathryn Westrick contributed with some nice kills along the way. After closing out set two with a 7 point lead, KO again fell a bit behind at the beginning of set 3. Behind for the first half of the set, KO showed its resilience with some incredible defensive saves led by Sydney Jett and Sydney Smith.  With the lead regained, Madi Henry pulled KO to 23 with a string of strong serves. After Cheshire scored a couple of points, a side-out put KO’s Sydney Smith on the service line with the score at 24-19, where she closed out the match with a beautiful ace. While this was truly a group effort, much of the credit for today’s win goes to Isa Raymond who worked tirelessly to cover the court as setter as we were a bit out of system at times today.  With this strong showing today, KO heads into Wednesday’s home match against Suffield Academy with confidence and purpose as we work toward a postseason bid. It will be an exciting match!
