Loss 0-3

The KO Varsity Volleyball team had a tough 3-0 loss to Greenwich Country Day School at home. In the first set, both teams took a little while to settle into the game. A model of consistency throughout the set for the Wyverns was co-captain Jillian Alexander ‘24, who took quick advantage of Lila Klinzmann ‘27’s clean sets to the right side and produced amazingly angled hits across the net. Lola Peck ‘26 was ready to battle at the net in the middle, sending over tips and clutch swings that kept KO in many close points. GCDS kept up a strong offense, though, and took the set 25-15. The second set saw the Wyverns elevating their game and putting pressure on GCDS during every point. Chloe Delaire ‘27 was putting up brutally punishing blocks in the middle that secured several points for KO and got the crown roaring, and had a few incredible diving saves on defense. Alex Segal ‘25 was launching down-balls and aggressive free-balls over the net from the outside and sending the opponent scrambling. In the back row, when she wasn’t digging the ball, co-captain Allie Arcaro ‘24 was providing spectacular bump sets to the outside, where co-captain Ava Cashman ‘24 was ready to execute powerful hits that sailed over the blocks. With truly amazing defensive reflexes, Francesca Lamattina ‘25 saved many hard-hit attacks in the back row, diving and passing to ensure that KO’s offense could put pressure back on the opponent. It was neck and neck, and went into extra points, but GCDS won the last few points to take the set 26-24. The Wyverns tried to keep up their momentum from the second set as they moved on into the third, and they put together some fantastic plays during long points in the set. Cashman and Alexander were firing hits from both sides, and Klinzmann was ready to turn any kind of pass into a controlled set. The opponent continued their solid play, however, and took the final set 25-13. We’re looking forward to building on the successes of this game and playing at home again against King on 10/7.
