Win 3-1

For the annual celebration of KO’s Hewett Day, the KO Varsity Volleyball team took on Kent, resulting in a thrilling 3-1 victory for the Wyverns. From the beginning of the first set, Kent came ready to take some big swings on their offense, and so the Wyverns took some time to adjust their defense. Key early digs from co-captain Allie Arcaro ‘24 and Alex Segal ‘25 gave the team the confidence to claw back from an early deficit. To turn the tide, co-captain Ava Cashman ‘24 put in several brutal serves to the opponent’s back row, and the Wyverns began to take the lead. The offense only opened up from there, with co-captain Jillian Alexander ‘24 leading the charge from the right side and placing the ball exactly where it needed to be to throw the opponent off. Yet another service run late in the game from Cashman, combined with a separate streak from the clutch, late-game serving maestro Lila Klinzmann ‘27 herself, allowed the Wyverns to hold on and take the set 25-22. In the second set, Kent really turned up their service game, and went on a roll in the early part of the set. For the Wyverns, Chloe Delaire ‘27 was in clear control of the middle of the net, taking every opportunity for a block, a smooth tip to the side, or a calculated smash into the opponent’s court. In the back row, Francesca Lamattina ‘25 guided many tricky serves to Klinzmann skillfully. The set included many lengthy exchanges, but Kent stayed consistent and took the set 25-11. In a show of resilience, the Wyverns dove head first into the third set, ready to fight for the win. Arcaro used her trusty, sleek serves to get the team’s offense going and put KO in the lead. From there, Delaire started crushing the ball in the middle, getting kills left and right for the team. Ready for her turn in the middle, Lola Peck ‘26 was unstoppable with her blocks, swings, and tips that made every play difficult for the opponent. The Wyverns dug into the long points and came out on top, winning the set 25-12. In the fourth and final set, both teams were building momentum, and it was neck-and-neck for the first half of the set. Then Alexander started to serve, absolutely launching the ball over the net and following up with energized attacks from the right side. The tides of the set turned, and KO built up an insurmountable lead that ended with a 25-16 win. What a win for Hewett Day! Go Wyverns!
