Volleyball – Girls Varsity vs St. Luke’s School – Away

Win 3-2

The KO Varsity Volleyball team had a show-stopping comeback resulting in an impressive 3-2 win over St. Luke’s. It was a battle from the first set forward, with the Wyverns putting pressure on the opponent early, attacking from all sides and from the service line. In the first set, Alexis Nisyrios ‘27 had some great offensive tips in the middle, and Cici Freeman ‘24 was ready to nullify the opponent’s attacks with high passing from the back row. It was a back-and-forth contest, but St. Luke’s charged into the lead and took the first set. In the second set, the Wyverns went on a roll when Alex Segal ‘25 had a fantastic 7 point service run to restart KO’s offense. The push forward continued with spot-on setting from Lila Klinzmann ‘27 that allowed co-captain Ava Cashman ‘24 to fire the ball from the outside and Lola Peck ‘26 and Chloe Delaire ‘27 to smash the ball from the middle, resulting in a confident win for KO in the set. The third set is when the gritty battle really set in, and co-captain Allie Arcaro ‘24 led the KO defense through some long and impressive points with her clutch digs and intuitive passing. Co-captain Jillian Alexander ‘24 was tipping, pushing, and clobbering the ball from the right side, spreading the opponent’s defense thin. Francesca Lamattina ‘25 had laser-focused serving throughout the set, as well, but unfortunately St. Luke’s held on to a lead and took the set. In the fourth set, the Wyvern offense was going full blast, with Delaire, Peck, and Cashman relentlessly pressuring the opponent to cover all parts of the court. These attacks, paired with consistent serving from the Wyverns, brought the game to a deciding fifth set. In the fifth set, KO continued its powerful offensive plays and took an 8-6 lead at the changeover. As St. Luke’s started to claw back, it was time for KO’s defense to step up, and they did! An amazing, impossible dig from Arcaro, an incredibly timely block from Delaire, and countless lunging saves from Cashman, Alexander, Segal, Lamattina, and Klinzmann kept the dream alive and secured a 15-13 win for KO in the final set. What a game! What a win! We look forward to keeping up the momentum and playing at Wilbraham and Monson on 9/23!
