Win 3-1

The KO Varsity Volleyball team had a solid 3-1 win against Williston Northampton, making some amazing plays in front of a home crowd for our Dig Pink game, with the aim of raising money for breast cancer research through the Side Out Foundation. The Wyverns, decked out in pink jerseys in a pointedly pink gym, started off strong in the first set, taking it to the opponent’s defense with aggressive plays. From the right side, co-captain Jillian Alexander ‘24 had some early rolling down-balls that found openings on the other side of the net, and Lola Peck ‘26 had attacks in the middle that ranged from dominant tips to powerful swings through the ball. On defense, co-captain Allie Arcaro ‘24 led the team’s serve receive with gusto, and even produced some spectacular bump sets to co-captain Ava Cashman ‘24 on the outside when the team got out of system. Cici Freeman ‘24 was ready to redirect some difficult serves in order to get the offense going. In the middle of the game, Alex Segal ‘25 had a relentless run on the service line, serving 7 in a row for the Wyverns and allowing them to maintain a lead until the end of the set, 25-20. In the second set, Williston elevated their service game and the points started getting more elaborate between the teams, but KO pushed forward with solid play. As Cashman was testing the opponent’s defense with continuously peppered hits from the outside, Francesca Lamattina ‘25 and Olivia Raccio ‘28 showed their grit and hustle in the back row with clutch coverage and high passing against Williston’s attacks. Lila Klinzmann ‘27 was calculating and efficient with her sets to all areas of the net, turning good passes into great attacking opportunities, and she had yet another clutch service run to lead KO out of the set 25-23. The third set was a nail-biter, with impressive playing from both Williston that left KO at a major deficit in the middle of the game. But then Chloe Delaire ‘27 proceed to serve for 8 points in a row, pinpointing the open areas in the opponent’s court and soaring through the air to place the ball there. The comeback allowed KO to take the set into extra points. Unfortunately, in some incredibly close and tense rallies, Williston pulled ahead and took the set 27-25. The Wyverns were ready for revenge, and quickly stepped into the lead with another incredible service run by Segal. Olivia Doran ‘26 put in some great serves to threaten the opponent’s defense, and Alexis Nisyrios ‘27 was an intimidating presence at the net with her readiness to block and redirect the ball. With Cashman, Alexander, Peck, and Delaire firing away from all sides, KO’s offense took control and they were able to end the set 25-17 and the game 3-1. It was a great game for a home crowd, and the team is proud to have played for such an important cause for Dig Pink and the Sideout Foundation. We look forward to our next game, away at Pomfret, on 10/14!
