Choral Groups Teach Music Lessons at Local Grammar School
Outlook, Crimson 7, and Oxfordians music groups traveled to MD Fox School yesterday to perform an hour-long concert/class for its first through fifth-grade classes. Students from Outlook developed short lesson plans to teach a large audience different aspects of choral singing, including solfege (do, re, mi, etc.), rhythm and time signature, aural learning (learning a song by ear), and beatboxing.
The students who led these were as follows:
Logan Michaelak, Molly Palmer, and Marco Ramirez – Solfege lesson
Leo Kollen – Rhythmic “Poison Pattern” lesson
Marlee Diana and Annie O’Connor – “I Love the Mountains” lesson
Riley Mapp and Jason Chen – Beatboxing 101 lesson
In addition to the teaching moments, our groups also sang a few songs with Crimson 7 opening the concert, Oxfordians performing “Thank You for the Music” (Abba), Outlook singing a madrigal carol, and Crimson 7 closing the concert with “Valerie” where the group invited a teacher from MD Fox School (named Valerie!!!) to the stage to dance with the group.
