Excitement and Anticipation for Changes on Campus!

“Have you noticed anything out of the ordinary going on this fall at school?

Have you felt the feeling of anticipation or excitement? Maybe you have seen

people walking through the school measuring and calculating, and you have

felt a certain sense of security in knowing of the great number of people working

for our benefit and for the benefit of future students. Yes, you guessed it right, it

is the new building which has been in the thoughts of so many, many people this

  fall.”

This quote can certainly apply to the way our KO community feels now as we look forward to the completion of the new library and dining hall, opening in time for the 2025/2026 school year.

The above quote actually comes from the Oxford Chat, November, 1954.

More learning spaces were needed as Oxford experienced a growing enrollment at 695 Prospect Avenue. Contributions came rolling in and construction began to enlarge the chapel, add three large classrooms, two smaller classrooms, an audio-visual room, a larger dining room, a new modern kitchen and a service entrance for delivery trucks outside the student areas. One Oxford student (name unknown-Oxford Chat March, 1955) wrote a poem about the construction, referring to

“an immense, dark hole and the sound of steam shovels…like a roaring

tiger after its prey…careful warnings to stay away from dangerous holes…

cold weather and still the work goes on…”

The dedication of the improvements was a highlight at the start of the new school year. In the Oxford Chat, Fall 1955, students wrote that the changes-

“Have earned our appreciation, and we take pride in keeping our new facilities

as fresh and as pleasing to the eye as they were on the first day of school.”

I would love for Oxford Alumna and Alumni of the Middle School that attended KO at the Prospect Avenue campus to share memories of their time there.

March break is a week away, we set the clocks ahead an hour next weekend and spring is right around the corner!
