KO Names New Golf Coach

Kingswood Oxford is very pleased to announce that Michael Wolf has been named the new Varsity Women’s and Men’s Golf Coach effective this spring. Wolf had previously served as the assistant ice hockey coach at Kingswood Oxford.

Wolf brings over 15 years of coaching experience to the program as well as knowledge as a former golf pro. He graduated from Wethersfield High School and attended college at the San Diego Golf Academy in Orlando, Florida. Wolf turned pro in 1999 and also taught professionally for five years as a PGA apprentice. In 2004 he decided to take his passion for golf and become a coach.

Wolf has a simple but impactful coaching philosophy. “Never forget the basics, practice what you learn, encourage your players that it’s ok to make mistakes, create a family that supports each other, and most importantly have fun,” said Wolf. “If you show up to learn you will leave a better golfer than where you started and you will be included in our community and will leave with a sense of belonging.”

Wolf is a big believer in teaching the fundamentals of the game as a whole and breaking down each component so his players feel confident in all areas of their game. “I believe it’s my job to teach course management, break the game down, the swing down, and get golfers’ games elevated and provide that hybrid coach and teacher feel,” he said. “This way it can truly be a place for players to develop their skills and have a chance to excel and enjoy the game more”.

Wolf’s approach in his coaching and teaching methods mirrors the motto of Kingswood Oxford School, Vincit Qui Se Vincit – “One Conquers By Conquering Oneself.”  “The game of golf teaches honesty, accountability, character, leadership, and self-discipline,” said Wolf. “It is a game that can really humble you and illustrate real-life lessons. Not every shot is going to be perfect, just like life. You collect yourself and take your next shot. Failure breeds success.”

The KO golf team will step onto the course this coming spring 2022, ready to compete and with a talented coach at the helm. Wolf said, “This opportunity is a dream come true and to be able to have it here at one of the best schools in the state where education and well-roundedness come first is the perfect place for me to be.”
