KO Students Perform at CMEA All-State Music Festival

Johnny Kung ’23 and Gordon Beck ’26 attended last weekend’s CMEA Connecticut All-State Music Festival. Johnny and Gordon stayed all day and overnight Thursday through Saturday to rehearse with the Mixed Choir conducted by Dr. Marques L.A. Garrett, an Assistant Professor of Music in Choral Activities at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in the Glenn Korff School of Music. Dr. Garrett also composed one of the six pieces the choir sang, “My Heart Be Brave.”

To be eligible for All-State, the students first successfully auditioned for the Northern Regional Choir by singing a specific audition piece and required scales plus sight-singing a new piece for a panel of judges. Next, they had to pass another audition with the same requirements but more difficult selections. Congrats to Johnny and Gordon!
