Nguyen Awarded Prestigious Rensselaer Medal for Excellence in STEM
Corey Nguyen ’26, a standout student with a lifelong passion for mathematics and problem-solving, has been awarded the prestigious Rensselaer Medal by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). This merit-based scholarship, valued at $160,000 over four years, recognizes exceptional high school juniors who have distinguished themselves in the STEM fields of mathematics and science.
Nguyen has impressed many teachers and administrators with his hard work and positivity. “Corey is thoughtful and mature,” said Director of College Counseling Jami Silver. “He is a serious student who is interested in engineering. Corey not only loves to learn, but he loves to share this intellectual curiosity with others, including his parents, whom he continues to want to make proud.”
Upper School science teacher Tomas Kopecky, who has worked with Nguyen, is equally enthusiastic about his talents. “Corey is always excited about learning new concepts and willingly shares his ideas and strategies with his peers,” he said. “Like a kid who enjoys solving puzzles, Corey likes to solve chemistry problems!”
From an early age, Corey demonstrated an innate ability to think critically and navigate complex problems. While he acknowledges that challenges can be frustrating, his perseverance and determination—qualities instilled by his parents’ encouragement to never give up—have enabled him to overcome obstacles and achieve academic excellence.
The Rensselaer Medal, first awarded in 1916, aims to recognize outstanding academic achievement and inspire students to pursue careers in science, engineering, and technology. Each participating high school nominates one outstanding student in the junior class for this honor. Upon acceptance and enrollment at RPI, recipients receive a $40,000 annual scholarship, totaling $160,000 over four years.
Corey plans to major in engineering in college, aligning with his strengths and interests in STEM fields. His dedication and academic prowess suggest a promising future in engineering and innovation.
Congratulations to Corey Nguyen on this well-deserved recognition.
