Wyvern Nation Sports Wraps – April 14, 2022

Tennis
The Varsity Girls’ Tennis team defeated Pomfret 6-1 in the first match of the year on April 9. The Wyverns won all four singles matches with Stella Dodd ’23, Abby Baier ’23, Hallie Braunstein ’23, and Alex Doering ’26 securing victories. The Wyverns were also able to win at #1 doubles (Amrita Natarajan ’22 & Hannah Malkin ’24) and #2 doubles (Irene Fotache ’24 & Yzzy Albert ’25).

The JV Girls’ Tennis team had an exciting opening day against Cheshire Academy on April 6. While the team’s overall performance for the day was 2-5, all of the players showed poise in their first matches. Audrey Karasik ‘24 won her match soundly, 8-1, while the duo of Avery Schiff ‘23 and Jahnvi Daddala ‘23 showed great skill in their 8-4 doubles win. Margaret Miller ‘25 and Diya Mistri ‘24 both showed real grit in their hard-fought losses, 2-8 and 3-8 respectively. Alyssa Temkin ‘23 never flinched in her match, 0-8. On the doubles side, Katlin Finnerty ‘23 and Francesca Lamattina ‘25 both had great fun playing in their opening game, 0-8, while Alyssa Tousignant ‘25 and Clara Drag ‘25 kept up their communication well in a hard-fought loss, 1-8. On the whole, the team looked calm and collected, despite the jitters that naturally come with opening day.
