Basketball – Boys JV vs Frederick Gunn School – Home

JV Boys Basketball

KO boys’ JV basketball secured a 59-44 win over the Frederick Gunn School at home on Wednesday. The win runs the Wyverns’ early season record to 3-2, back over .500 at last. The players of Gunn used physical play and a rebounding advantage to build towards a neck-and-neck near tie at the end of the first half (21-20), but it was the Wyverns’ resilience and poise under pressure that won the day. the deciding factor. Freshman Tyler Bergquist ’27 logged big minutes, leading the team on defense with over six steals, countless rebounds, and a number of loose ball turnovers. Bergquist played a physical but conservative game, drawing minimal fouls while truly being a playmaker for our team. As we entered the second half, Xavier Hernandez-Newton ’27 led the team in scoring and provided stellar defense as well; Hernandez-Newton would end the half with 16 points of his 20 overall. Bergquist and Hernandez-Newton both scored in double digits over the course of the game, helping anchor the team with good communication on defense and calm (well, calmer in the second half!) offensive possessions. While KO looks ahead to a rematch against Westminster this Friday, the focus will continue to be on pressuring the opposing defense, rebounds, rebounds, and rebounds. Go KO!
