In a resounding second victory over the Westminster School, the Wyverns sent the Martlets back to their nest in a 38-30 victory. During the first half, Westminster struggled to find their stride as Sebastian Cotte ’27 was a force to be reckoned with on the boards; come halftime, the Martlets had a mere 6 points to the Wyverns 20. As every player saw the court during the second half, the score inched ahead and Westminster was able to make a run towards the end of the game. It wasn’t enough as another lights out performance by Xavier Hernandez-Newton ’27 proved the the freshman could claim 21 of the 38 total team points during the game. Co-captain Ben LaFreniere ’25 came in clutch during the second half, driving the tone of the team and leading younger players through their offensive sets. The second half was one of exploration in personnel, and while the Wyverns gave back a few points to Westy the scoreboard at the end of the game told the whole story, 38-30 victory goes to KO. This is the only team we see twice during the season, and consistency begets victory. Next week we’re in full on “practice mode” as in two weeks time the boys will once again have a week of multiple games and multiple challenging opponents. Go Wyverns!
