Cross Country – Girls Varsity vs Westminster School, Williston Northampton School – Home

Win

On Saturday, October 7, the Boys and Girls Cross Country teams faced off against not one, but two competitive teams on their home course which winds through woods and over hills and around water at the West Hartford Reservoir. Despite fearing that they’d have to contend with torrential downpours in the lead up to their races, KO’s fearless Wyvern runners–alongside their beloved coaches and hardworking athletic department adminstrators and trainers–set up the course prior to warming up. Both teams made certain to clear the course of as much debris as possible to make it safe to race upon, especially in the rain, and they set out a number of cones and directional stakes and used chalk to make clear where runners should run so that they could stay on course. All of this planning and hard work paid incredible dividends! Not only did the thunderstorms wait until both races had concluded AND both KO teams had cleaned up the course before descending, but the Girls Varsity Cross Country team did the Wyvern Nation proud. Having trained steadily the last two months to build up their stamina, strength, mental toughness, and speed, the Girls XC runners were well primed to run some of their best races of the season, even against the fierce competition of the Williston Northampton and Westminster teams. The team’s six scoring runners all contributed to KO’s victories over both of their competitors. Junior Abby Craig finished strong with a time of 26:53 and earned 16th place overall out of 28 runners total; similarly, sophomore Ava Bonsignore also did quite well, finishing with a time of 26 minutes flat and earning a 12th place finish. Junior Sophie Chen finished just ahead of Ava in 11th place with a competitive time of 25:23. Finally, the team’s most veteran runners, junior Sasha Dausey, Team Captain and senior Kami Tarantino, and junior Claire Palmer, were also our fastest on Saturday! They all finished in the top ten and secured KO’s victory over both Willison and Westminster. Sasha Dausey raced into 6th place with a swift time of 24:20 while Captain Kami Tarantino earned an impressive time of 22:43 and finished in 4th. Finally, this race’s MVR (or Most Valuable Runner), junior Claire Palmer, won the entirety of the race, earning first place with a time of 18:48, a full three minutes faster than the runner coming in at 2nd. KO can be proud of what both teams accomplished on Saturday and we look forward to our next race at Pomfret on Saturday, October 14th!"}”>On Saturday, October 7, the Boys and Girls Cross Country teams faced off against not one, but two competitive teams on their home course which winds through woods and over hills and around water at the West Hartford Reservoir.
