Field Hockey – Girls Varsity vs Miss Porter’s School – Home
V Field Hockey
KOFH beat Miss Porters on our home opener.
It was an extremely hot and humid day with no shade in sight on the turf. As the game started we looked focused and ready to play. As we dominated the first half of the game, we had a great deal of shots on goal. Our goalie Caitlin Budzik 2021 played a great game and had a shut out! While she dove for balls that were shot at her, her skill level have improved so much that nothing will stop her or get by her this season. Our offense is working hard every day to get the ball on the goal. The offense did their thing, stayed low and attacked at the right times. Within the first ten minutes of the game Isabelle Burke 2021 connected perfectly with the ball to sweep it into the goal. As we started to approach their goal for the second time, we were in position and once again ready to attack. Isabelle Burke once again was in the right place at the right time. Something she has been working hard at. Arie Lang 2022 assisted by setting the ball in front of the goal, so Isabelle Burke yet again got low and swept the ball into the goal. As we continued to dominate the field, we again found ourselves in front of their goal with a beautiful assist from Tori Swanson 2021 who sent the ball across the circle where Cici Chagnon 2021 (who scored a hat trick in this game) connected perfectly with the ball to put us in the advantage with three goals on the board. As the heat continued to beat down on us, our willingness and perseverance allowed us to never give up. Subs were made to give people a break from the heat and we were back at it with a breakaway. Cici Chagnon once again took control of the ball and put in yet another goal (her second) to put us in the lead with 4-0. As halftime came we found a little shade to cool off a little so we could continue to push through for 30 more minutes. This is where we usually get so tired that the other teams take advantage and end up scoring. But that was not the case this season or this game. We came into the second half of the game overheated but that was not going to stop us. Tori Swanson brought the ball down the field and had a great pass into the circle to get the assist on our 5th goal scored by Alyssa Pavano 2022. Our final goal was scored yet again by Cici Chagnon. She has worked hard all summer and has improved her skills tremendously that it definitely showed in this game. Other game standouts were Keegan McMahon 2021, Alex Arnold 2023, Camy Forslund 2021 and Margo Dogiewicz 2021 who held it down on defense and fought hard to keep Poters at bay. Abby McLaughlin 2021, Alex D’Addabbo 2020, Katherine Doar 2022 and Madeline Pelletier 2020 also played a good game. We have our next game at Canterbury this Saturday and plan to bring home another win.
