Football – Boys JV vs Avon Old Farms School – Away
Win 13-12
The Kingswood Oxford JV football team made the short trip to Avon Old Farms to play under the lights for the final game of 2023 for the JV squad. AOF started hot, forcing KO to punt and then taking the ball 65 yards down the field for a TD score to lead the game 6-0. The KO offense moved the ball well in the first half, but were stymied in Avon territory twice in the first half. In the 3rd quarter AOF running back broke free on a big 75 yard TD run to give Avon the lead 12-0. The JV squad, like all year, showing no quit, continued to fight with fantastic plays. On a critical 3rd and 16 Jordan Cipriano ’26, hit John Sokale ’27 on a seam pass for 42 yards to get deep into Avon territory. The offensive line of Aryan Dange ’25, Teddy Ristaino ’28, Jackson Poulin ’26, Asthon Binalla ’27 and Max Huang ’25, were tremendous in pass blocking and run blocking, culminating in a strong 4 yard TD score by Sokale. The critical XP converted by Cipriano with a great hold by Colton Bowes ’27 and snap by Ristaino ’28, cut the deficit 12-7 early in the 4th quarter. The Wyvern defense stiffened, stopping Avon the rest of the way with multiple critical tackles by Colton Zahner ’27, Sokale and Poulin. The Offensive play of the game came late in the 4th quarter when Xavier Hernandez-Newton ’27 ran a tremendous route and was wide open. Cipriano then hit him in stride for a big 42 yard TD score to give KO the lead 13-12 with minutes to play. Avon then drove the ball all the way down to the KO 5 yard line. The defense held again with a tremendous forced fumble by Sokale and recovery by Poulin, stopping Avon inches before scoring. It was a thrilling victory for the JV football team who now ends their season with a winning record of 3-2.
