JV Football Downs Cheshire Academy

The Kingswood Oxford JV football team traveled to Cheshire Academy to take on the Cats on a partly cloudy fall afternoon. It was a defense struggle in the first quarter with both teams moving the ball. The KO defense was huge in the first led by Bennett Abraham ’30. First jumping on a fumbled handoff stopping Cheshire’s first drive. On the next defensive possession he read a pass play perfectly and jumped in front for a highlight interception. Early 2nd quarter Nico Pizzoferrato ’30 found daylight on a Qb scramble and went 62 yards for the opening score. Credit Abraham ’30 for a great block on the play. The Cheshire offense responded marching 75 yards to lead 8-6 mid 2nd. The KO offense found a passing groove  connecting to Ayden Clarke ’30, Brandon Negandhi ’30 and Brady Powell ’28, culminating in a 6 yard score by Clark ’30 to lead at the half 12-8.  Marching deep into KO territory a forced fumble recovered by Abraham ’30 stymied the Cats offense yet again. KO then marched the field scoring on a 14 yard sweep with excellent blocking by the WR group! Now up 20-8 in 4th quarter Cheshire made it a ball game scoring to cut the lead to 20-16. Late 4th Q, the wyvern offense made the play of the game. Pizzoferrato ’30 running QB sweep right for 63 yards for the final TD, led by great blocking by Clarke ’30, Negandhi ’30 and Abraham ’30. It was  the nail in the coffin.  Final score 26-16.
Huge credit to the KO lineman who faced bigger opponents all day and hung in there!  Defensively Johnny Frimpong ’29 was excellent at the LB position amassing 7 tackles on the day. Ian Thompson ’28 was strong at the DL spot securing 7 tackles as well.

The JV team now 2-0 will look to continue their winning ways on October 14th at Brunswick
