Football – Boys Varsity vs Canterbury School – Away

Loss 21-23

The Kingswood Oxford Wyverns traveled to New Milford, CT to take on the Canterbury School Saints on another rainy cold fall Saturday afternoon. Canterbury got off to a fast start and with the help of an onside kick and interception, the Wyverns found themselves down 16-0 midway through the 2nd quarter. However, KO showed excellent resilience and got the offense rolling with a great pass by Stephen Bailey ’25 to Justin Morle ’26, for a 32 yard TD to start the scoring for KO. The defense sensing the tides have turned was stout the rest of the half led by great secondary play from Sandy Cloud ’25 and Christian Gordon ’25. Bailey was able to get the offense into the endzone one more time before half with an excellent catch by Rhandyn Bair ’24 in the endzone for a 9 yard TD score to go to half 16-14. KO with all the momentum started the half with a big forced fumble and recovery after a great punt by Dom DiNuzzo ’24, giving KO the ball on the Canterbury 15 yard line. It took the offense just 3 plays capped by a 2 yard QB sneak TD run by DiNuzzo to give KO the lead 21-16. The Defenses on both teams were strong the rest of the way with teams exchanging multiple punts. In the 4th quarter, Canterbury was able to break free on a big 50 yard pass play, leading to the go ahead score on a 3 yard TD run late in the game. Offensively Morle led all rushers with 61 yards, DJ Biggins ’26 and Christian Gordon ’25 both were on the receiving end of 30+ yard pass plays. Defensively the Wyverns were led by Cameron Thomas ’26 with 13 tackles, Justin Morle with 9 tackles and Julian Przecioska ’25 with 9 tackles. KO will look to bounce back next week on Hewett Day when they host the St Paul School.
