Middle School Girls’ Soccer vs Westminster School – Away
MS Girls Soccer
There are some sports fans out there who claim that soccer isn’t ‘exciting’ enough for them or that ‘there just isn’t enough scoring’ in soccer.
Well, these sports fans clearly haven’t watched the Kingswood Oxford MS Girls’ soccer team play. If you were lucky enough to secure tickets to Wednesday’s match at the Westminster School, you saw the KO MS team erupt for ten goals. Yes, you read that correctly, TEN GOALS! That’s more scoring than four different NFL teams managed this weekend. The Wyverns were led by Ida Chapman with a first half hat trick, and (goalie) Sarah Balog with two goals. Anna Rossi scored her first ever goal of her entire life as well. The other goal scorers were: Amelia Cicchiello, Eliana Gauvin, Molly Wiggenhauser, and Vivian Regan respectively. The defense, anchored by the aforementioned Amelia Cicchiello and Anna Rossi, put up a wall that prevented the much bigger and older Westminster team from getting too close to KO’s goal. When they did, goalies Eliana Gauvin and Sarah Balog ensured that the Wyverns kept their clean sheet. Key strategic decisions were made by assistant coach Stacey Tomkiel that kept Westminster confused and frustrated all day long. As the final whistle blew and hands were shaken and team chants screamed, head coach Kyle Chapman couldn’t help but beam with pride at the effort put forth by his team on the pitch today. For a team which is made up primarily of Upper Prep students can go to a high school and win a match by such a margin, that’s pretty remarkable stuff!
