Soccer – Boys Varsity vs St. Luke’s School – Away
KO Falls to St. Luke’s School
Varsity Soccer Falls to St. Luke’s
The Kingswood Oxford varsity soccer team traveled to St. Luke’s on Saturday, September 22, looking to put together a strong defensive performance and create opportunities on the counterattack.
For the first 30 minutes, KO defended extremely well, with Aaron Anstead and Jack Ritter leading a disciplined and organized back line. The team stayed compact and worked hard to limit St. Luke’s chances while looking to push the ball forward to Lou Sauer and Joe Baek for opportunities on the break.
St. Luke’s opened the scoring in the 30th minute when they whipped a cross into the box. KO was unable to clear the ball, allowing St. Luke’s to capitalize and take a 1–0 lead. Despite conceding, the KO defense continued to battle, and the team created several promising opportunities, but a few chances narrowly missed the mark.
St. Luke’s doubled its advantage in the 62nd minute with a spectacular strike from outside the 18-yard box. The shot found the upper corner and was simply unsavable.
The home team added a third goal in the 75th minute when St. Luke’s #11 scored another outstanding long-range goal to make it 3–0.
Once down 3-0, KO was able to get the rest of the team into the game and give some much-needed rest to the starters. The entire group came in and competed hard, but with the game winding down, we became a bit too comfortable and allowed St. Luke’s to score in the final seconds.
It was a tough game, but there were plenty of lessons to take away. The team will continue to learn from its mistakes, make the necessary adjustments, and work to improve as the season moves forward.
